I'm saying it sure seemed that way, but as far as I know, there's no proof or even allegations of it floating around. It's just my opinion and it sure the hell doesn't count for proof. Even if I disected every game and showed play by play bad calls- it's still not evidence of an NFL conspiracy.
Re: Boston Herald-Possible Rams/Pats Superbowl Spygate?
From the Jets Insider forum:
"Michael Holley, of WEEI in Boston, is reporting that he has multiple sources that claim the Patriots did not tape the Rams in Super Bowl 36. He also reports that Matt Walsh has nothing he will be able to provide the NFL or Congress".
Re: Boston Herald-Possible Rams/Pats Superbowl Spygate?
From ESPN:
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday at the Pro Bowl that the NFL is willing to give former Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh legal indemnification for any information and materials he would provide to the league regarding his work with the Patriots.
League attorneys are working with an attorney for Walsh to get an agreement in place for Walsh to meet with league officials.
In general legal terms, indemnity is a guarantee against any loss which another might suffer, often financially.
Among the things the league wants to talk to Walsh about is a recent Boston Herald report that a member of the Patriots' video staff taped the St. Louis Rams' pregame walk-through before Super Bowl XXXVI.
Goodell also said on Wednesday he had no firm date as to when he would meet with Sen. Arlen Specter, but Goodell said it would be next week.
Chris Mortensen covers the NFL for ESPN.
Re: Boston Herald-Possible Rams/Pats Superbowl Spygate?
I just heard that if they have proof and find Belichick guilty he can be suspended for 1 year. I still don't think that would be enough. I think we should be compensated.
Re: Boston Herald-Possible Rams/Pats Superbowl Spygate?
Jay Glazer is reporting that if Belichick did indeed have them tape us, he would "come down hard" on him, since Belicheat signed a paper saying he had already turned in everything.
The only compensation I would want would be that Super Bowl title, which should happen, but will probably not.
An * or just removing that game from the record books would be fine as well.

Spygate comes up as Goodell, Shaw meet
By Jim Thomas
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
Thursday, Feb. 07 2008
Rams President John Shaw met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday in
Los Angeles, and one of the topics they discussed was the latest allegation in
the Spygate case involving the New England Patriots.
"The commissioner told me that there was no new information that would suggest
anything contrary to what was said by the Patriots," Shaw told the
Post-Dispatch on Wednesday. "But he said it was something that he would
continue to investigate."
The Patriots have denied a report by the Boston Herald that they taped a
walkthrough practice by the Rams in the Louisiana Superdome on the Saturday
before Super Bowl XXVI six years ago in New Orleans.
Shaw had a meeting scheduled with Goodell before these latest Spygate
allegations. Shaw said he and Goodell spoke only for a few minutes on Spygate
during their meeting.
Shaw said he came away from the meeting satisfied that the matter would be
investigated thoroughly by the NFL. "This is a league matter," Shaw said.
On Wednesday, Goodell told The Associated Press in Honolulu, site of Sunday's
Pro Bowl, that he's willing to pursue any believable information in the Spygate
case. Goodell told the AP that the league has been in touch with
representatives of former Patriots assistant coach Matt Walsh, who is now a
golf pro on Maui. Walsh was doing video work for New England when the Patriots
upset the heavily favored Rams 20-17 in the Super Bowl.
Goodell plans to meet with Sen. Arlen Specter soon. Among other things, the
Republican from Pennsylvania wants to know why Goodell destroyed tapes and
notes turned over by the Patriots following the initial Spygate allegation —
that the Patriots illegally taped sideline signals of opposing coaches during
games. The Patriots were fined $250,000, New England coach Bill Belichick was
fined $500,000, and the Patriots had to forfeit a first-round selection in this
year's draft as a result of that investigation.
As for the latest allegations involving taping the Rams' walkthrough, Goodell
told the AP: "We were aware of this before. We pursued it and weren't able to
get any information that was credible. ... From day one, I said if we feel
there is new information that's inconsistent with what we've been told (by the
Patriots), I reserve the right to reopen it."
However, the NFL has yet to interview Walsh in any of its Spygate
investigations. It is possible that Walsh signed a non-disclosure clause when
he left the Patriots, in which case he could face civil litigation from the
team if he talked about his activities as a Patriots employee.

It is interesting that the governement is stepping in on this issue. The NFL is big money to many big people and to states. It is a business, not just a game.
Maybe we will get some answers. I am in favor of the truth.

I agree UtterBlitz....We want the truth, We can handle the truth!
What's the old saying? Cheaters never prosper? Well in this case even if the Patriots are found guilty of foul play it's to late. They already enjoyed the rewards of SUPERBOWL XXXVI!:x Having said that I still want them punished in a big way if in fact they are guilty.

Arlen Spector is a senator from PA- where his biggest campaign contributor- Comcast- is based. Comcast is in a huge fight with the NFL now over charging for the NFL channel. The rumor flying around here is that Spector is doing the talking, but Comcast is pulling his strings.

Isn't the entire cable industry fueding with the NFL? Does it matter as long as the truth comes out? It doesn't to me. I want to see the Patriots crushed, punished and exposed as the fraud they are. The loss to the Giants gives me satisfaction, but getting proof positive that they taped the Rams would absolutely shatter their legacy for all time. That's what I want to see.

Blitz just mentioned that he found it strange that the government is getting involved and I just gave him the prevailing theory of why- that is going around in Spector's home state.

Good to know.:)
Re: Boston Herald-Possible Rams/Pats Superbowl Spygate?
Indemnification for Walsh is a very good first step in an investigation. I'm getting more optimistic we may find the truth. If Walsh does have anything now is the time for him to bring it to the table. Hopefully he has some very concrete evidence like the actual tapes or other hard proof.
