Bradford hopes still-painful ankle will be 100% for training camp

This is from a Sports Xchange article yesterday...

When questioned about his ankle, which was injured during the 2011 season, Bradford said, "It's good, it's good. I would say there's still days where it's not 100 percent, but I really haven't had any major setbacks. It seems to be getting better every week. I'm hoping by the time training camp gets here that it'll really be a non-factor."

My thoughts exactly. Saying things like "not 100 percent", "really haven't had any major setbacks", "seems to be getting better" and "hoping by the time training camp gets here that it'll really be a non-factor", give me cause for concern. Bradford needs to be focusing on learning a new offense, developing his confidence, and putting last year behind him, not worrying about a gimpy ankle.

By the way, nice find Nick.

I think you may be right. The Jim Thorpe game was played back on June 15th, and that's when he made the quote. I'd really like to hear how the ankle is doing now.Training camp is less than two weeks away.

I am so so happy that he played 5 games after hurting that ankle. That was an awesome idea.

That'll teach me to trust the Rams medical staff. I thought Bradford should be allowed to play as long as team doctors cleared him, which they did, week after week.

Hopefully, he'll be 100% for training camp and this will all be a non-issue, but if not, I'll be miffed at those who judged that Bradford was okay to play. If Bradford is still limping around in two weeks, I'm going to talk to Fisher and Snead about making HUb the Rams medical advisor.

From his his youth football camp, Bradford said that his ankle still bothered him.

"It's good, it's good. I would say there's still days where it's not 100 percent, but I really haven't had any major setbacks. It seems to be getting better every week. I'm hoping by the time training camp gets here that it'll really be a non-factor."
Not sure about Nicks quote, but this was made recently.

It's the same quote, originally made around June 13th. Not sure why the Sports Xchange would use a month old statement.

My medical specialty is hindsight. Not looking at "hinds", mind you; but rather judging the judgements of others after the results have already been determined.

    I'm freakin' awesome at that.

Re: Bradford hopes still-painful ankle will be 100% for training camp

How in the world is a high ankle sprain to a 25 year old professional football player with the best medical people at his daily disposal still an issue 7 months later?? I'm not questioning Bradford's toughness, but this seems alarming to me- when guys like Jack Youngblood and Terrell Owens were playing on broken legs during their careers.

Re: Bradford hopes still-painful ankle will be 100% for training camp

As of tomorrow, it will be nine full months since Bradford initially injured his ankle. At the very least, it's unfortunate that this is still something we're keeping an eye on, but that's what happens when a high ankle sprain isn't allowed the time to heal properly.

Just curious: How long do these types of injuries -- ankle sprain -- take to fully heal for an NFL QB? Especially when having a full off-season to rest / care for it. That is, to be back to 100%?

And no, I also do not question Bradford's toughness.

It's been my experience as a coach that some severely sprained ankles can take 3-4 months to fully heal, but they are the exception. And as Nick pointed out in a previous post, it has been 9 full months since Bradford first hurt his, which means I'm more than a little worried. I guess the only thing I can do is have faith that it won't be an issue during camp.
