Bradford needs to step up Sunday ..

    BY ROGER HENSLEY | Posted: Friday, October 1, 2010 9:25 am | 1 Comment

QUESTION: The oddsmakers have the Seahawks as one-point favorites over the Rams this weekend. If Steven Jackson is unable to play, or if he plays sparingly, what will the Rams need to do to snap their 10-game skid vs. the Seahawks and climb to 2-2 on the season?

    JIM THOMAS

For starters, the Rams have to keep Seattle’s return game in check, particularly kickoff returner Leon (2 TDs vs. San Diego) Washington. Next, keep the lid on Seahawks TE John Carlson and RB Justin Forsett, who both had big games against St. Louis last season. If all that happens, the Seahawks shouldn’t be able to put many points on the board, and that will put less pressure on Sam Bradford and the Rams’ offense.

    BILL COATS

Obviously, they’ll have to hold the Seahawks under their 30-points-per-game average. On offense, the passing game will have to be effective so that the running game is loosened up. If the Rams can’t move the ball through the air, it could be a long afternoon for the home team.

    JEFF GORDON

Pounding the ball on the ground with Kenneth Darby and Keith Toston won’t be easy, that’s for sure. But Darby is dangerous when he catches the ball in space, so he could get a lot of touches as the Rams rely on a ball-control passing game to move the chains. The Rams should still be able to sustain some drives. But Jackson’s absence would put even more pressure on the kick coverage teams to contain Seattle’s explosive return game. And the defense will have to make some big plays against a Seattle offense that is still under construction.

    BRYAN BURWELL

Special teams, special teams, special teams. Seattle is not a frightening offense, but it breaks games open on special teams. The Rams need to cover kicks well and prevent blocked kick
