    Bradford Rewrites Rookie History

    02/14/2011
    Source: NFL HOF website

A major part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s mission is to “preserve professional football’s historic documents and artifacts.” Many times, it doesn’t take long for a young player’s memorabilia to be called an artifact.

Such is the case with the St. Louis Rams rookie quarterback Sam Bradford. His record-setting performance in 2010 is now a part of the Hall of Fame’s vast collection. On Friday, his jersey from the regular season finale against the Seattle Seahawks arrived in Canton.

Bradford wore the jersey on Jan. 2, 2011 during the Week 17 contest in which he set new NFL rookie passing marks for completions (354) and attempts (590).

The game capped a remarkable year by the first player selected in last April’s draft. Bradford became the only rookie quarterback picked No. 1 overall in the draft to win four of his first five starts at home since the common draft began in 1967.

It all began when he made his NFL debut by throwing 55 passes to set the NFL record for most attempts by a rookie in Kickoff Weekend. More history-making games followed for Bradford as he helped the Rams turnaround from a 1-15 finish in 2009 to post a 7-9 mark this past season. In Week 12, Bradford became the first rookie passer to throw for 300 yards, fire three TDs while not being intercepted in a road win. The Rams downed the Broncos in Denver, 36-33, that day.

Also, along the way, Bradford had the longest streak of passes without an interception by a rookie (169).

Not to down play SAMs accomplishments, but he'd no doubt tell you that he's done nothing yet, in the NFL! SAMs Jersey from the Seahawk game should be burned in effigy, memories of Bradfords' worst game of his young career.
More should've been expected from the NFL 'Rookie of the Year' who was chosen 1st in the draft, played in the worst division in the history of pro football, BTW Bradfords' rookie records were piled up against a less than average 'Mickey Mouse' schedule of teams.

Sam poses no threat to the tougher teams in the league that the Rams will face next year.
The hiring of Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels is a good one and is sure to help SAM with more formidible future HOF considerations.

HOW WOULD WE COMPARE SAM BRADFORD TO HOF DAN MARINO?
Marino took his Dolphins to the Superbowl basically as a rookie and posed an immediate threat to opposing defenses.
Mr. Bradford...YOU SIR are NO Dan Marino! NOT YET AT LEAST..

I don't really understand your post. You said "not to downplay Sam's accomplishments", but then thats all you did.

    1. Bradford's game against Seattle wasn't great. Lucky for him, they base these things on season play, not individual games. Big picture.

    2. Do you seriously think more should have been expected from Bradford last year after he put up one of the best rookie seasons for a QB in NFL history? Marino only started 9 games that season, and that was almost 30 years ago. That sounds kinda like Apples and Oranges to me unless you can show he did it with very little supporting talent and vanilla play calling. There's a reason Bradford's rookie season was put up against Manning and not Marino.

    3. It doesn't matter if the Rams had a soft schedule last year. How do you know the records Manning set were against the league's elite? Manning was playing on a losing team so his rookie year was probably a soft schedule too. How'd he do again?

    4. How can you say Bradford poses no threat to tougher teams next year, and then praise the hiring of McDanials? Doesn't really make sense to me. Regardless, none of us know how he'll do next year, so its not really fair to jump to the conclusion that Sam poses no threat to tougher teams next year.

    5. Marino was picked by the defending AFC division winner at 27..Maybe that had something to do with the TEAMS success.

How come you are always putting players down, I remember you doing the same with Chris Long not too long ago with the hurried qb stat... You are no worse than any critic. You are a fan and shouldn't be criticizing every little thing about the players.
