Re: Brandon Gibson Is A Keeper
I've been wondering what Brandon has to do to finally get some love. Sure he's dropped some balls, but he appears to be steadily improving and in doing so, garnering Sam's trust. We lost the game yesterday, but Gibson made some great catches, and kept drives alive. He certainly looks improved over last year. If he can stay healthy this season, it will be interesting to see how he is viewed at season's end. I believe he will continue to build on his chemistry with Sam and emphasize his value as the season rolls on.
I'll admit that last year and the year before, I thought the guy was pretty much worthless - not that fast, dropped balls etc. To my eyes he is playing much faster this year, and grabbing balls with authority. Thus I am hoping he makes things very difficult for the naysayers (myself included for at least a couple of years) at season's end.

Re: Brandon Gibson Is A Keeper
He's on a pace for the following stats:
53 receptions
733 yards
5 TDs
Those are good numbers for a No. 3 WR. The problem is, he's a starting WR.
So, to me, its not a question of whether or not he's good enough to keep. Its a question of what role a guy with his skill level and production should be filling.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Brandon Gibson Is A Keeper
I look at Gibson as I did Ricky Proehl. Solid player but he just doesn't have the tools to be a #1 or even a #2 WR. If you make him your #3 in a spread set, he's going to excel. As a #1 WR in Phoenix Proehl's best season he caught 65 balls and 900 yards (roughly). Most of those seasons were 55 catches and 750 yards. Very much what Gibson will do this season.

Re: Brandon Gibson Is A Keeper
very true, it's not his fault he's forced in to a role he's not capable of filling. Even after drafting two more receivers this year after two last year it's obvious we still lack that big time playmaker. Hopefully next year we spend the 1st round pick or sign a Wallace,Bowe or Jennings because it's sorely needed.

Re: Brandon Gibson Is A Keeper
With due respect, Rebel, Brandon Gibson couldn't hold Ricky Proehl's jockstrap. Proehl had an excellent career for 10-11 seasons, proved consistent and reliable and caught some huge passes in his career, most notably the catch vs. Tampa Bay which put us into the Super Bowl and the catch which tied SuperBowl XXXVI with NE.
Granted, Gibson isn't playing with GSOT talent around him, but he can't be judged on what he MIGHT do given the right surrounding cast, only what he HAS done. Gibson might (hopefully) approach a typical Proehl year this season if he continues to do his part, but for right now, he shouldn't even be in the same conversation as Ricky.

Brandon Gibson Is A Keeper
That's rebel yells point of comparing Gibson to proehl. Proehl was forced to be a number one with the cardinals, bears, and first season with the rams and put up similar numbers to what Gibson has put averaging. The point being Gibson has a place on this team just not a number 1...

Re: Brandon Gibson Is A Keeper
I'd say Gibson still has some proving and improving to do before he's earned "keeper" status. Two good games is hardly enough to overcome his inconsistent hands.
Certainly he deserves props for the good things he's done in Amendola's absence, but I'm not quite ready to say he's a "keeper".

Re: Brandon Gibson Is A Keeper
It was a great catch. He can be a keeper, just not our number 1/number 2 receiver. However I'm glad that he has stepped it up in Danny's absence.

Re: Brandon Gibson Is A Keeper
I think we are getting the most out of Gibson, but I also think Sam Bradford doesn't develop chemistry with new WR's quickly.
I think Schotti has to get some easy plays to get the ball in the hands of Pead, Quick, and Givens more often....Screens, Reverses, and quick hits.....
Obviously, after the bye we may have more time, but Gibson has heart,,,,and hopefully that rubs off on the youth

"I'm RealRam and I approve this message: 'Brandon Gibson Is A Keeper'."

Been rooting for BG since his 1st year but now he's proving he can make plays and be, what, our 3rd WR? Sounds about right. And hopefully, continue to improve in confidence and skills!
