Rams sign Miami P to offer sheet
By Jim Thomas
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
04/12/2007
The Rams have signed punter Donnie Jones, a restricted free agent, to an offer sheet. Terms weren't immediately available. Jones, 26, averaged 42.8 yards per punt last season for Miami, with a net average of 35.7 yards. He led the NFL in net average in 2005, with a 39.3-yard average with the Dolphins.
Jones entered the league as a seventh-round draft pick out Louisisana State by Seattle in 2004 and appeared in seven games for the Seahawks that year. The Dolphins have seven days to match the Rams offer. If they choose not to match, they would get a seventh-round pick from St. Louis.
Veteran Matt Turk, who handled punting chores for the Rams last season remains in a contract stalemate with the Rams as a restricted free agent.

Thats huge for our Punting Unit!
Re: Breaking News: Rams sign P Donnie Jones to Offersheet
Wow, Martz takes our players to Detroit and Linehan takes the Dolphin players to STL.
for all we know, Ricky W may be in contract talks with the Rams.
Re: Breaking News: Rams sign P Donnie Jones to Offersheet
I don't think signing a punter is huge news ever, lol
At least we're making an effort to give Sanders some competition though.
Re: Breaking News: Rams sign P Donnie Jones to Offersheet
Donnie Jones will start at Punter next year, I don't know how he doesn't. He's averaged more than 42yds per punt the last two years.
Re: Breaking News: Rams sign P Donnie Jones to Offersheet
lol, that's if Miami doesn't match that offer sheet...
I read breaking news, and I thought I'd see Jenkins...I hate you ramsfan16 lol

WOW, definately , RICKY WILLIAMS TO BACK UP STEVEN JACKSON , the defense would never hit the field , we would just run it down everyone's throats all day long. best idea yet , now we don't have to give away all this stuff to get jenkins . let's get ricky.

Are you being serious?
Re: Breaking News: Rams sign P Donnie Jones to Offersheet
Actually, Ricky as a backup would be an outstanding situation for the Rams. C'mon, there is a great probability that there are pot smokers on the Rams right now. Ricky would just bring some Mexican skunk from Austin with him and "blend" in.
Seriously though, Ricky would be a great 2nd back for the Rams. Wouldn't cost much money (which would delight most of the ClanRam GM's as that seems to be what the CR GM's want to sign anyone not on the team right now anyway) and he knows Linehan.

TX glad to see you back posting at a very good clip! Good stuff
Re: Breaking News: Rams sign P Donnie Jones to Offersheet
He is certainly a lot younger than turk. If the rams like this guy better, i am fine with it. My main concern was that we spend real money to acquire a quality punter.
Does anyone have any sense for whether this guy is as good as turk? Is the difference worth a #7 pick? If he is solid, we could actually have him for several years.
ramming speed to all

One never knows with Linehan I guess
Re: Breaking News: Rams sign P Donnie Jones to Offersheet
Ricky was not even playing in Miami while Linehan coached there.

Linehan was O.C. in 2005, in which Ricky had over 700 yards on the ground.
