BREAKING: Rams set to release S Quintin Mikell Monday

I understand that he is making alot of money, but I feel this creates another hole. I am sure that there is a plan in place, and hopefully the Rams can use some of that saved money to sign Hayes back. Losing both Hayes and Mikell without a plan would make me concerned about the defense next year.

Look out for Louis Delmas (Tim Walton coached him in Detroit) or Kenny Phillips (Walton coached him at the U).

Guess he must have refused a pay cut. This does create an additional hole - we effectively have no starting safeties, which worries me, but hopefully Dalton can bring in one of his guys.

They are both ok choices. The only things that worries me is they are both coming off injuries.

I've wanted Phillips and still do. When healthy he has the ability to be the best S in this league. He is big, can lay the wood, and is excellent in coverage. Jason Witten said this: "When Phillips is in the game, we don't go deep".

Looking forward to drafting Swearinger, his skill-set is similar to Mikell.

Please keep in mind though I'd still like to see a quality FA and a draft pick (Phillip Thomas or Baccari Rambo in round 3?) brought in.

My thoughts exactly. Like I said earlier, I know his release saves the team money, but I feel like an adequate replacement will cost close to the same money. Also, there is no way the Rams can afford to draft 2 safeties with how young they already are at CB.

gotta think with the timing of this release, and upcoming FA that the Rams must be working the phones or know of some interest that could replace these safeties.

I'm betting its more than just a plan. It would not surprise me if we've already had extensive talks with the agent of Mickell's replacement.
