Brit fan just wondering if ....

Sorry if this is a dumb question from a Brit but thought i'd ask anyway.

I was reading with interest Rambos recent post about who we need to win or lose to help us with next years draft picks.

It got me wondering whether any teams have deliberately lost / played poorly in their last remaining games to ensure they get better draft picks. Now I know no team would make it look obvious but has there been any cases of teams at the end of a season "Not showing up" on game day to improve their pick position.

    Just wondered?

A team certainly could throw the age, but I don't recall ever seeing it happen.

Generally if a team is doing poorly the coaching staffs' jobs are on the line and they don't want to dig their selves into a bigger hole by throwing games.

Players on a losing team have even more incentive to play hard in order to remain employable.

I think I remember the Texans shanking a chip-shot field goal which secured their #1 pick for Mario a few years back. IIRC it was shanked completely wide left.

I think the kicker genuinely shanked the field goal. I mean, why embarrass yourself by doing that? It could affect your career.

I don't think that which you question happens, however I am of a mind some dirt has been done in the past by corrupt or vengeful refs! Also we all know that guys like Bellicheat is not above going to the lowball to get an edge! But throwing games that would be excommunication from the sport if caught, as bad as gambling on games while involved etc... Hope this does not or has not happened!
