Bruce Ceremony Is Pregame, Not At Halftime
Bruce ceremony is pregame, not at halftime
BY JIM THOMAS
Wednesday, October 27, 2010
Three words of advice for those planning to attend the Isaac Bruce jersey retirement ceremony Sunday at the Edward Jones Dome: Get there early.
The ceremony will take place before the St. Louis Rams' game with Carolina -- not at halftime. The ceremony begins at 11:35 a.m., or 25 minutes before kickoff. Former Rams head coach Mike Martz, now offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears, is scheduled to introduce Bruce. Martz is able to attend because the Bears are in their bye week.
About two dozen former Rams players, many of them from the Greatest Show on Turf teams, will be introduced on the field. Then Bruce's jersey No. 80 will be hoisted into the rafters at the dome.
The first 10,000 fans arriving Sunday receive an #80 Isaac Bruce lapel pin. (The dome doors open at 10:30 a.m.) After the game, all fans in attendance will receive a commemorative Isaac Bruce lithograph as they exit the stadium.
Tickets remain available for the game and can be purchased at 314-RAMS-TIX or a stlouisrams.com.
Sunday's ceremony will be a culmination of a hectic four days for Bruce. On Thursday, he has dinner with Rams sponsors. On Friday, he meets with the media at Rams Park, and then hosts a party for team staff and players at Rams Park. Friday night is the Celebrate 80 event at Lumiere Place to benefit the Isaac Bruce Foundation -- the event is sold out.
On Saturday morning, Bruce will speak to the 2010 Rams squad.

If this game does not sell out, it will be an embarrassment. I really hope Rams fans don't let that happen.

Re: Bruce Ceremony Is Pregame, Not At Halftime
I find this to be disappointing news. Unless they call every ticket holder, I think there will be a lot of empty seats for the ceremony. I believe that most fans would assume that it would be taking place at halftime.
I suppose they feel it would be inconvenient to scratch a cheerleading display or a youth football scrimmage.

Re: Bruce Ceremony Is Pregame, Not At Halftime
Will any of this be on TV or will I just have to see clips of it when the game starts?

I don't know why there would be empty seats. The Rams are playing well, playing an opponant that they have a strong chance of winning against, and you have the ceremony for Bruce. I know it's Halloween this weekend, but I can't see why any Rams fan with a ticket wouldn't go!
I would go myself if i was't stuck in the UK...

I agree. Most fans are wandering in late and they will not know about this ceremony unless they are doing heavy promotion for it. I was there for the deacon jones ceremony and it was before the game.
I will have to call ramgram because I know she is looking forward to this.
I would think it would be better at half time so that more fans would be there[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I cannot wait. I have always wanted to meet Isaac, I hope I get the chance. We have had some success greeting Ram players after the games, I can only dream that this legend will take the time to sign my #80 jersey I will be wearing, so that it also can be retired forever!
