Bruce released
This is per Bernie;
Quote:
Isaac has been released....
Made an offer to him for 2008 and he rejected it...
as a result, contract was terminated...
sad day...

Well...again, if we could get it done for Leonard Little, why not Bruce, who was incredibly more productive than Little last year anyway? It just doesn't add up, I myself think (hope, pray) something will get done to get him back in a Rams uniform next year.

Re: Bruce released per Bernie
This is the second most depressing moment in my 40 year history as a rams fan. Only the loss in super bowl 36 is more painful than this. This is worse than the loss to carolina in the playoffs, worse than all the championship game losses in the 1970's, worse than the playoff loss in 1969.
Bottom line is that the bid ask couldnt have been more than a couple of million dollars. Bruce has sacrificed time and again over the years for this team. Not just in effort on the field, leadership in the locker room and time in the community, but in money. The salary cap is 118 million. I am sure there is room for a couple of million extra dollars to find a way to make Ike happy and feel wanted. They cut him once and got away with it and i am sure that wont happen again. I believe that Bruce can still play at a high level and it just kills me that it has come to this over what in the big picture is very small money.
The franchise is rudderless. Misguided. Run by attorneys with no football knowledge to speak of. Public relations considerations cast aside completely. Indifference to the fans. This is a place where chip rosenbloom could have made a stand and just said Guys, we arent cutting Isaac Bruce over a couple of million bucks. Instead, he is a distant uninvolved figure who says I want to bring a title back to st louis. What a bunch of crap. Great way for him to start his ownership regime. The responsibility goes to the top. There wasnt enough money involved here for the rams to dig in. We need new ownership.

Re: Bruce released per Bernie
Hmm I don't like our chances of getting him back. I think we'll see him somewhere else - very sad. Now I don't know what deal was on the table, but right now I'm a little disappointed that Bruce did not want a deal with us. I doubt they lowballed him, I really doubt that.

Rams released WR Isaac Bruce.
The Rams asked Bruce to take a pay cut and he refused. The Rams have got themselves into awful cap condition with poor free agent signings the past few seasons, and now have to cut their most tenured player. Bruce has plenty left to in the tank, and will instantly be on San Francisco's radar. If the Rams are smart, they'll make him another contract offer.

Re: Bruce released per Bernie
Its pure speculation as to whether we lowballed him or not. No way to know in either direction. That is of course on everyones minds, what was the final bid ask.
My point is that the salary and bonus numbers werent big enough to make that big a difference. Bruce has sacrificed plenty over the years, he is entitled to get close to all if not all of what he signed up for.
Personally, i think part of this is that bruce believes that he can still play at the #2 spot and doesnt like what he sees in terms of direction where the team is going. He has certain personal goals and while he doesnt act like a jerk about it, he is entitled to put himself in the best situation to achieve those goals. Bruce has made plenty of money. He knows he can still play and wants a chance to prove it.
Why should bruce take it in the shorts every time his contract is on the line just because he has been with the rams so long? Not fair. For once in a ablue moon, the Rams could take it in the shorts and pay some extra money to thank a guy who has done a TON for the organization.
Again, i think chip rosenbloom should have stepped up and chimed in on this and showed some actual leadership.

Re: Bruce released per Bernie
He has been the one he has constantly restructured his contract, been released and signed by the Rams before, and is in the final days of his pro career.
Hate to say this, but I'll bet a dollar to a doughnut he's going to be a target in Mike Martz's offense next year. For those of you who still believe in Bennett, you BETTER be right. For those of you who think we don't need to draft a WR high in such a deep WR draft, you BETTER be right again.
