    Bulger for Culpepper

    VIKES HAVE OPTIONS FOR CULPEPPER

Despite reports that the Vikings have found a trade partner for quarterback Daunte Culpepper, we're told that the team has multiple options.

A deal, as reported elsewhere and as we've confirmed, will be struck within the next 24 hours, and the transaction will be consummated after 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, because trades can't be made until the next league year starts.

As to his health, we're told that he actually is on track to play in 2006, and that he'll be ready for training camp.

Said one league source: "G.M.ís should be standing in line to get this guy and the smart ones are."

Stay tuned. Our guess (and it's only a guess) is that it'll be the Rams, and we predict that current starter Marc Bulger will be part of the package that gets sent to the Vikings.

Easy now....must we post these bits of words?

Is there any shread of truth here? I can't believe that Linehan would trade Bulger, but hey I don't know him or his style. Does Linehan have an interest in Culpeper, has he worked with him before?

This concept seems stupid to me.....but ya know what do I really know....

They're not exactly on par with FactCheck.org in terms of getting things right. Their main problem is that they hear one little thing and report it instead of holding off until the information becomes more substantial. Thus, they end up reporting a lot of stuff that doesn't come to pass, and really end up creating more buzz about a rumor than there was to begin with. It sounds like they're just running with the Linehan connection.

    Re: Bulger for Culpepper

I'm breaking this story in about an hour on my site but, because Avenger asked so nicely, I'll give you all the scoop. Here's how its going to go down...

The Rams will send Marc Bulger and their second round choice to the Vikings for Duante Culpepper and the Vikings' first round choice.

The Rams will then package their two first rounders and trade to Houston for the No. 1 pick in the draft.

They will then send the first pick in the draft to the Ravens for Ray Lewis and Balitmore's first round pick.

Ray Lewis and the Ravens' first round pick will then be sent to the Dolphins, along with Duante Culpepper, for Jason Taylor, Chris Chambers, and the Dolphins' 2007 No. 1 draft choice.

The Rams will then trade Chris Chambers, Jason Taylor and the Dolphins' No. 1 draft choice to the Vikings for Marc Bulger and the Vikings' second round draft choice (obtained from St. Louis).

I think its a great deal for the Rams.

    Re: Bulger for Culpepper

I don't know how crazy this is or not. Over on the Herd, they've got two or three sources confirming that the Vikings have agreed to trade that will become official at 12:01 of the first day of free agency. Miami, Oakland and the Rams have all been mentioned but everyone's just guessing at who the trade is with.

Personally, I'd hate to see the trade done but I think it makes a heck of a lot of sense. Culpepper's biggest season came with Linehan as his coach, Linehan seems to prefer guys he's worked with (Freotte as starter in Miami!?!) and DC is already familiar with Linehan's offense. There are also reports, that I'm skeptical of, that Culpepper's rehab has him on schedule to be ready for preseason.

Statistically, DC has matched and surpassed anything Bulger's done and Linehan has no loyalty or connection to Bulger. On paper, this is a very realistic possibility.

However, if the Rams are without Bruce, without Bulger and have Culpepper under center I don't know if I'll be able to get the forks out of my eyeballs.

Why would they wait for free agency to make it official? Can it not happen now?

    Deal Confirmed
    11:25 PM
    3/9/06

Rumors of a possible deal that will send Daunte Culpepper to the St. Louis Rams for current starting quarterback Marc Bulger and a "mid-round" selection in the 2006 draft have been confirmed tonight. A source close to the situation has told Vikingsboard that the deal has been struck in principle, and is awaiting the Saturday Free Agent deadline for finalization.

"This is not to say that a last minute offer from another team won't be entertained" said the source "But I can tell you with almost certainty that if nobody else steps up in the next 24 hours with a better offer, Culpepper will be a Ram before the weekend is out"

The mid round selection is believed to be a fourth rounder, however that could not be confirmed.
    More information to follow.

    Re: Bulger for Culpepper

HUGE! If this happened, I would not be mad at all. Culpepper had his best years with Linehan, knows his offensive mindset and playbook, and Bulger hurting his throwing shoulder each year has become a concern for me. This would be a huge deal for us, a top 5 QB in St. Louis!
