Bruce remains questionable with turf toe

ST. LOUIS - Quarterback Marc Bulger was listed as questionable on the St. Louis Rams' injury report for their game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at the Edward Jones Dome.

Under NFL guidelines, that means Bulger has a 50-50 chance of playing against the Saints.

However, it's likely that Bulger will remain sidelined until after the team's bye week.

Bulger is suffering from a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder, an injury he said was similar to the one that caused him to miss two games last season.

Under that same time frame, he would miss the game against the Saints and the game the next week against the Jacksonville Jaguars before returning to action against the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 13.

It would mark the third time in four seasons that Bulger has missed time due to injury. He missed two games last season due to the shoulder injury and five games in the 2002 season due to a hand injury and then a season-ending neck injury.

Jamie Martin will be the starter and rookie Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the backup as long as Bulger is sidelined.

There's a chance the Rams will bring back quarterback Jeff Smoker, who was beaten out by Fitzpatrick for the job of third-string quarterback during the preseason.

Rams wide receiver Isaac Bruce also was listed as questionable after being listed as doubtful the previous three weeks. Bruce has missed three games due to a turf toe injury.

Bruce did some straight-line running in practice last week, but it would be surprising if he was ready this week to handle the hard cutting involved with playing wide receiver.

Rookie safety Jerome Carter (hip) and wide receiver Torry Holt (knee) were both listed as probable.

The Rams didn't practice on Wednesday as interim head coach Joe Vitt gave them an extra day off after their Monday night game against the Indianapolis Colts.

There is a chance that Rams rookie offensive lineman Richie Incognito could start practicing with the team this week.

" We'll make that decision tomorrow as we plan for the week and take a look at who might be up and who might be down, but there's a chance this week," Vitt said of Incognito. "I'm excited."

Because he was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list, Incognito now has a three-week window to either be place on the active roster or placed on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

The Saints had 11 players listed as questionable on their injury report, including five starters. They were: wide receiver Joe Horn (hamstring), left guard Kendyl Jacox (knee), right guard Jermane Mayberry (shoulder), right tackle Jammal Brown (ankle) and strong safety Dwight Smith (knee)

Re: Bulger listed as questionable for Sunday's game

Bulger has about as much chance of playing this week as Roman Gabriel. shows you what "questionable" really means on the stupid injury report.

    ramming speed to all
