Re: Bulger needs to be Da Man

More fuel for the fire from The Sporting News

Quote:
The book on: Marc Bulger

A rival sizes up the Rams' veteran quarterback:

"He's really one of the most accurate passers in the league right now. You just have to give him time. You have to protect him, and they've had some offensive-line breakdowns lately. But if they shore that up and (Orlando) Pace is healthy. . . .

"He's not great under pressure. He's not the most physically gifted guy. He's not real mobile. He'd rather sit in the pocket because he has such a quick release. He's not one that does a lot of improvising. He's had problems with injuries. He's not a very big guy; that could always be his issue with injuries.

"He's going to get nicked up. But if he's healthy and he has time, he's as good as anyone throwing the rock. He's got one of the most underrated arms in the league. But I like Bulger. Bulger's fine. He's not their problem."

Hmmmmmm....just off the top of my pointed head....

Marino
Elway

Re: Bulger needs to be Da Man

good point big red, but how many superbowl winning qb's there? One.

The elway point is the greatest. He carried his team well, but didn't get a win until he had a better supporting cast, terrel davis being a big factor. Come to think of it Elway suffered some horrendous superbowl losses, but the team didn't get rid of him afterwards. Why? Its a team sport, it wasn't just his fault, which he proved when he was part of a superbowl winning team later on.

Bulger aint as good as those guys, no way and there is better qb's than bulger in the world, but that still does not make a team a one man band.

Nice try Randy. When those guys had real success, they benefited from good defenses, solid lines and better than average special teams, something Marc Bulger has only been able to dream about the last several years.

Man...can I borrow those rose colored glasses? Your memory of the past only exceeds your knowledge of when to get off the train in St. Louis to catch the connection to the airport!

Hmmm. As I recall, there were three of us on that train who had the ability to SPEAK UP at any time!

As for the QB's you listed, the only guy that helped his TEAM make a serious playoff run without a very good defense was Fouts in '81, part of arguably the greatest offense in NFL history with a HOF line-up of skill players, an OL packed with pro-bowlers, and James Brooks and Wes Chandler returning kicks.

If you need the team particulars for Elway, Marino and Moon, let me know and I'll be happy to provide them.

How many of the players you named play on the offensive line?

You can name all the receiving talent you want. The bottom line is an offense's success is going to in large part depend on the efficiency of their offensive line, and for a number of years now, the Rams' has been in the toilet.

Do you think the Rams have done enough or need to do more to correct their offensive line issues for this up coming season?

The Rams should spend a major amount of time in camp, putting much emphasis on shoring up this O-line.

Maybe it's a Respect thing from the line. Maybe they don't have the confidence in their QB. The thing about Bulger Being the 'Man' is all about commanding respect, namely getting these guys on the line to toll the line.
Well, hopefully that's something that can get worked out in camp.

Yea, maybe it's a respect thing. The O-line has so little respect for Bulger they conspired to get themselves injured so that the line had to put up 3 different starting Centers, 6 different starting Guards, and 6 different starting Tackles. Four of them went so far with their disrespect as to end up on the IR.

Yep, there's definitely a lack of respect from the O-line towards Bulger.

Also; The last season bulger had these 3 guys as his receivers, he went to the pro bowl.

They started in the right direction by going after Bell, but I think we have two guys that can be real knuckleheads on the right side of the line. Both Barron and Incognito have talent, but I don't think they live up to it as often as we need them to. Ultimately you have to wonder if we could improve this line with other options there. Our question mark at center is slightly troublesome simply because Romberg is still in the running. I think that tells you about how much to expect from whoever mans that spot.

...so they're conspiring as a group to allow him to be sacked and pressured more because they don't respect him? Can't say I'm really buying that one.

Exactly. In 2006 when he had Holt, Bruce, and Curtis, he had the best season of his career and went to the Pro Bowl, even though he got sacked a whopping 49 times. But I guess he still wasn't "the man" then somehow...

I'm gonna have to back you up...........I pity anyone who's stuck in Stockton. Although Manteca is worse.

I would love to see a middle ground. We have the Bulger doubters and those who choose to ignore his obvious short comings and place the blame anywhere else they can.

You are correct, skelley. The middle ground, in my opinion, is that Bulger is a great passer but a horrible quarterback. There is a difference.

What makes you say that he's "horrible", Yoda? Just be interested in a little elaboration there.
