Bulger shows up for offseason program

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 15, 2010 6:35 PM ET
The Rams aren't going to lock Marc Bulger out of the facility.

The team's nominal starting quarterback, who no one believes will remain their starting quarterback because of his $8.5 million salary, showed up to the Rams offseason conditioning program Monday.

The Titans once barred the late Steve McNair from working out with the team's complex for lifting because they feared him suffering an injury and subsequently being on the hook for his salary.

The Rams will take that small risk with Bulger, even if his presence is awkward. St. Louis has brought in A.J. Feeley as one quarterback option and figure to add one or two more quarterbacks in the next six weeks.

Interesting. Does this show Bulger's dedication to this team? Hmmm.

I've been a Marc Bulger supporter for a while, and I respect him and all that he has done.

No matter what happens, good luck to Marc.

Will he rebound his career with a bang? We'll find out soon enough.

Interesting indeed. Does this mean he isn't going to retire just yet? Is he keeping in shape for a run with another team? Is he looking to stay with the Rams and perhaps re-negotiate his contract? Regardless of what happens, he's a stand up guy and has always been a consummate professional. I'd like to see him stay a Ram.

At the risk of starting a debate. I have always been a huge fan of Marc's abilities. I have always blamed his deterioration of talent on the players and the coaching scheme around him. I'm all for bringing in new blood that can be primed for the future, but Marc is probably the best option that we are going to have for a starting quarter back next year.

Does this really surprise anyone? Marc is the kind of guy that if his name is on the roster, he will show up. His dedication is hard to beat.

Couldnt have said it better, while his playing level has gone down without a doubt, he is still the most dedicated person on this team in my opinion. I really dont think he cares about if he is getting cut, or traded, or whatever the FO decides to do. I think the way he see's it is that right now he is a Ram and he will do everything to help the franchise until the changes.

Props to Bulger for showing up, I really thought he'd just sit out since it really, really looks like he's gone soon... my guess is after the draft if we get a QB early.

Guess what? I showed up at work today too, as I'm sure most of the members of the Clan did as well. Just how exactly is this new?

Well the guy is still getting paid right? I have to show up at my job to get paid. Hmmm. Doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary to me. He is employed so show up.

Generally, offseason programs at this time of the year are voluntary. For instance, Tom Brady is skipping part of the Patriots' voluntary program and staying home in Los Angeles.

Re: Bulger shows up for offseason program

I look at it like this: Marc went to a voluntary program so he could work out and hopefully improve his performance. He isn't buying into the rumor mill, he is not a quitter, and he knows that he isn't the QB he should be. That is why he showed up - well, that and he's a team player.

I think it shows his character as a person more so than his dedication to the team. I wouldn't say he's not dedicated but I doubt he's thrilled with the team either.
