Butler thinks $2M is not enough?

    http://commissioner.netscape.com/nfl...t/STL/10188060

--CB Jerametrius Butler has been a no-show for the team's entire off-season program and first two weeks of OTAs.

"There's been no change," coach Scott Linehan said of Butler's status.

Butler has three years remaining on a six-year contract offer from the Redskins the Rams matched when he was a restricted free agent in 2004. He is scheduled to be paid $2 million this year, and the original deal included a $4 million signing bonus. That prorates to $667,000 a year.

If he were released on or before June 1, he would count $2 million against this year's salary cap. After June 1, he would count $667,000 this year, and $1.333 million in 2008.

Is there any possibility of trading him and picking up like a 6th or 7th next year?

I think someone would trade for a 6th... hopefully, if they haven't watched any of our games the last two years.

Why does he want more money when he clearly doesnt deserve the contract he's playing at now?

    Says nothing of money

While it is in vogue to jump on JB right now, the article does not say he is holding out for more money. It just says two things (1) He is not in OTA; and (2) it gives details of his contract.

The assumption is he holding out for more money is unfounded (at least by the article). My sense he is not there because he is dissatisfied with his role and that the Rams are phasing him out anyway.

While money could be an issue, there are no facts in this article to support that he is a no-show due to money.

I still don't understand why people keep thinking we can get a draft pick for Butler, especially now that we know we tried to trade him during the draft and got nothing. No one wants anything to do with a guy who has been sidelined for two years with his salary.

Agreed, the jump to not showing up for a mere $2M may be unfounded, and the possibility does exist that he feels like his job is gone, So why bother to show up and make others think he still wants to play a game which has made him wealthy if not rich.

I mean, nothing says "I want to play" like not showing up!

Yes, holding out is known to be a ploy for more money or even a trade, but one generally has to have some value to a team for such an action to have the desired effect?

Outside of the cap hit, that is.....

We still got a lot of rookies to sign, though. That extra $1.33 million may come in handy.

If we are planning on saving the money to sign another defensive end, thats one thing. I think we already have the cash set aside for the rookies.

The interesting issue here is how bulgers contract extension impacts our cap. I dont know if a contract extension would cause this years number to go up or not. Its going to be a very large bonus and the proration alone may have an impact.

But that's the question. Does our "Cap $$$ - Rookie Pool $$$" leave any black ink? Or is our total cap right at our total rookie pool amount?

Re: Butler thinks $2M is not enough?

Butler is gone after June 1st that way if the Rams want to sign a post june 1st cut they have the extra emmergency room.

The cap will go up next year and the 1.3 million wouldn't matter.

The way I see this is that Leonard will be wearing #23 no later than June 2nd.
