    Byrd makes no-contest plea

    By Jim Thomas
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    Wednesday, Oct. 17 2007

Rams tight end Dominique Byrd pleaded no contest Tuesday in Los Angeles
Superior Court to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Byrd was sentenced to three years probation, fined an unspecified amount and
ordered to participate in an alcohol-treatment counseling program for three
months. A charge of being an unlicensed driver was dropped.

The charges and resulting sentence stemmed from an arrest March 4. Byrd's
attorney, Bruce Richland, declined to comment Tuesday. Rams coach Scott Linehan
said the NFL has procedures in place for cases of player misconduct, and that
the club would abide by them.

According to Greg Aiello, the NFL's senior vice president of public affairs,
Byrd's case will be reviewed under the appropriate league policies. In general,
first offense DUIs result in fines by the league and not suspensions, Aiello
said, and do not require a meeting with Commissioner Roger Goodell.

But Byrd may not be in the clear yet with respect to a possible suspension by
the league, which has cracked down on off-the-field transgressions under
Goodell. Byrd still faces a trial Dec. 10 in St. Louis Circuit Court on
charges of assault and armed criminal action stemming from a nightclub scuffle
in downtown St. Louis in December 2006.

The NFL will review those proceedings as well, according to Aiello.

Byrd, 23, was a third-round pick by the Rams out of the University of Southern
California in 2006. He hasn't made much of an impact on the field, though he
did catch four passes for 44 yards Sunday in Baltimore. Byrd was left behind in
St. Louis before the Rams' game Sept. 30 in Dallas ó and fined by the team ó
for missing a special-teams meeting that week.

I hope they took away his license for a while, especially if he was already driving without one. Real bright there Byrd.

Maybe he thinks he will still "fly".

Byrd is one player I have yet to accept, regardless of Coach Linehan's hand in bringing him in. However, if DB corrects his ways and ends up contributing, well, what can I say?

    I'll find something.

He must have a lot of talent to still be around.

Or he has some dirt on Linehan.

Endless potential, but exiting precocity. Dude's got a million dollar body and a ten cent brain.

With all the lets be good lil' boys with the league, they'll throw the book at him...hope it was worth it, leting your team down and loosing a pay check
