Camp Battles: Safeties
Who will be the starting safeties on opening day?

Re: Camp Battles: Safeties
This year I think Archuleta and Atogwe are the starters. Next year, it would not surprise me one bit to see Atogwe and Carter starting.
Isn't Archuleta's contract up after this season?

Yup, that's why I agree with you that 2006 might see OJ and Carter as our starting safeties. Unless Arch can show he's back completely from injury, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Rams let him walk and test the market. I'm hoping OJ wins the slot next to Arch for this season though. I'd much rather see him in the secondary than Stone or Hawthorne, whom I think provide good depth but shouldn't be counted on to start.

Unlike the FB and RT position, I think from game 1 there will be a rookie starting at FS. I think OJ will pick up our D faster than most of the rookies and should be ready to go from the beginning. However, don't count out Bartell, either. He will be our starting nickel, but may serve as a utility DB early on.

Being as raw as he is, it would really surprise me to see Bartell make a major contribution on defense this year. Special teams is another story. However, don't count out Bartell, either. He will be our starting nickel, but may serve as a utility DB early on.

Who's Simpson? (You mean Thomas?)

Re: Camp Battles: Safeties
I think he meant Bill Simpson, who was a safety in the late 70s. Pat Thomas and Rod Perry were CBs.
