Can Jerome Murphy replace OJ at SS for next season?

All this talk about how the Rams have shot themselves in the foot, or are being typically frugal with there money regarding O.J's departure has me thinking about what the Rams could have in mind regarding replacing Atogwe??
Jerome Murphy showed a physical presence in the run game and decent skills in pass coverage. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that Spags could implement him in his scheme where Atogwe played and quite easily hold his own?
Just an idea thats crossed my mind since the season finished?
Before people jump all over me, I meant FS in Spags system which isnt the free roaming type used in most defense's.

I wouldn't mind converting him to that position, but I'd still consider grabbing Rahim Moore or Quinton Carter in the 2nd or 3rd round.

we have about 3 or 4 CB`s that could play FS at a pinch..but like Fliptallion..i`d rather us go for one of the guys he mentioned..though would take McDaniel over Carter.

it`s worth repeating what i`ve mentioned elsewhere(i think on here) that if you remember during the fans chat with JT and Billy D ,Billy mentioned prior to letting Atogwe walk that he was almost drooling over a certain DB in round 2..i think the majority of those who picked up on that presumed he meant a CB but i thought and it seems maybe a bit more clearer now..that he meant a Safety. could be a FS or could mean a SS and Butler sliding across to compete with Stewart.

I wouldnt read too much into that fans chat with Devaney drooling over a DB in the 2nd round. Billy D is always non committal about draft prospects and would not show his hand, unless he was maybe bluffing?
Ill be disappointed if we use our 2nd on a DB and quite frankly a little surprised. Although we need help all over the roster, I see bigger inadequate's in the front seven and at wideout?

he`s not really showing much of a hand by saying he`s got his eye on a DB..DB could mean a player in atleast 3 different positions..kinda like mentioning interest in a linebacker or d-lineman. not reading too much into it anyway ,but was worth mentioning it nonetheless.
i would rate safety more of a need than say DE and folks have put us taking a DE in their mocks in the 1st round..i`d say any position other than QB,.OT,C and MLB are acceptable positions to take with the 2nd round pick.

Atogwe was the FS, so Murphy would not be replacing him if he switched to SS.

Sure, we could move Murphy, but I wouldn't assume that he would be an instant starter. He'd have to learn the position, and if he did become a starter at safety, our depth at corner would be even worse than it is now. So we'd probably still have to look to the draft or free agency for a decent defensive back.
