Can we talk about our defense?

The NFL record for regular season team sacks is 72. Held by the 1984 Chicago Bears.
Our 2012 Rams had 52 and our 2013 Rams had 53. How many will our Rams have this upcoming season?

Didn't know the record was 72, wow. I'd say it'll increase and it wont be all Quinn, but I'm sure he'll free up the rest of the D-line.

We didn't draft Aaron Donald because of his ability to play the run. 61-70

With the hiring of Greg Williams to go along with our very talented front 7, add to that, the now pass happy NFL. I'm going for the record books...71-80!!!

I know, I know, put the crack pipe down...

Re: Can we talk about our defense?

I think its going to depend on the back end - if they can cover and play an aggressive style of defense I can see around 60.

If they can't, then QBs will get the ball out on us early, and it will be much less.

But IMO they will get better as the season progresses, I'd estimate 58-62. Which is really quite incredible these days.

I don't think we'll threaten the Bears - too many short timing offenses these days. Remember who beat the bears in '85 - Marino and the Dolphins.

Re: Can we talk about our defense?

I picked 51-60, but I could see 30-40 based on what I have seen in the preseason. The officials are so intent on finding something that looks like defensive holding in the backfield or hands to the face on the line that they are FLAT OUT ignoring most OL holding. In the 49whiners and Broncos game, the 9ers' LT was holding so bad it looked like a choke hold. The officials did see this, but on the next play he did THE EXACT SAME THING (could have been a replay) and the officials called off-sides and ignored the holding.

Just about every game I have watched has had OL holding mostly ignored. If this continues into the regular season, SACK totals across the board will be down, as it is hard to get to the QB when you are being mugged by the OL. Although, Quinn is one of the few that can still get to the QB while being mugged, so it may not impact him as much.

Re: Can we talk about our defense?

I say we lead the league with 55, and thats on the conservative side. The Rams have the talent and coaching scheme to get in the 60's or 70's, but unfortunately I think a couple sacks will get called back due to penalties in the secondary
