The following are quotes from Jim Thomas Live. The entire text of which was posted here at the clanram.

    link------> Thomas Live 12-30

Jim Thomas: Let me just say this: My source on McDaniels and Spagnuolo being out of the Rams' price range was impeccable. Obviously, Chip and Lucia are well off by most standards, but they're not rolling in dough by NFL owners standards. Salary for coaches does not come out of the salary cap; it comes out of their pockets. All those empty seats at the Edward Jones Dome translates into less money in their pockets.

Jim Thomas: I believe the Rams want to spend about $2 million to $2.5 million a year on a head coach. Chip and Lucia aren't swimming in money. The Rams are in the lower third of the league in terms of being a profitable franchise. A very good source _ outside the building _ told me that Spagnuolo and McDaniels would cost way more than the Rams are looking to pay.

Then the League can hire him - and the League can Pay him.

    They have a large staff.

Other teams have no trouble is clearing house every 5 years or so - and they benefit when they do it.

I believe, as long as Chip and Lucia own the Rams, Shaw will have this advisory position. He was a close and trusted family friend for many years. Chip and Lucia are not going to dump him entirely on the whims of disgruntled fans. This is as good as we are going to get, right now, and a damn sight better than what we had.

I know you seem to thrive on the negative side of things, but the positive side of this is that the football decisions are now being made by football people. Perhaps you'd be happier as a giants fan? Your constant cesspool of negativity gets very old.

    Ferter -

I have no idea why I should be negative after a 5-27 record in the past two years.

It's called Reality. You choose to live on Fantasy Island - and I'll remind
    you of the score.

The Truth is the Fans and the decent players won't put up with 3 more years of losing - even though some are perfectly content with it.

Well, I'll tell ya...I don't believe for a second that money is no object for Chip based on the 7 candidates that he has lined up through next week. Unless he has a secret meeting set up with a blue chip coach (which is highly unlikely), I would say any pursuit of a Cowher or Shanahan isn't in the cards (but I sure would like Chip make me a liar regarding Cowher).

Re: Chip says money not a factor in Rams' coaching search

A lot of reading between the lines here. Wouldn't it be easier just to wait a few weeks until the Rams actually hire someone?

As for the team being "for sale," what does that even mean?

For example... there's no "for sale" sign in front of my house, but if someone wants to offer me $5 Million for it, I'll move out right away.

Right now if you sold the Rams, it would be like the show Hee Haw just call BR549 at
    Shady Dome franchise sales. LoL
