    Re: Chris Long?????

His career started off slowly, but he's been able to really get going and this year he was a force starting with the game against Detroit. He's really quieted the haters and it's obvious that he can be a real cornerstone of this defense for years to come.

I think the general consensus is that he's played better than the numbers indicate (in terms of sacks). He's still young and developing, but has shown a lot of potential. He's played very well against the run, but some will pick on lower sack totals and call him a bust. IMO they're a small minority though.

He's broken through the barrier and is well on his way to becoming a star in the NFL. He lit it up the second half of the season.

Chris Long had a great 2nd half of the season. Seems like he's getting it and the sky's the limit for him in 2010.

i like him as our left end for the foreseeable future..we need another pass rusher on the other side, but from the left side he does a good job of bringing pressure and is very good against the run. great overall talent.

    Re: Chris Long?????

IMO Chris Long's play will continue to improve for many reasons beside experience under his belt and another year exposed to Spags defensive coaching philosophy being implemented. This is a team that despite a 1-15 record has shown improvement in the defense over the offense, partly of course because the amt of key starters affected by injuries on offense was greater than the defensive injuries. By drafting Suh this could help Long by taking the pressure off of him and Leonard Little. Last and not least our defensive backs have to step up both in better coverage and run stoppage allowing more QB sacks. Despite Laurinitis finishing with outstanding numbers there were alot of long runs when he was double teamed in the middle. TIME WILL TELL

Send Calvin Johnson & Stafford our way & he's yours, sarge...lol...

Otherwise, he's really coming into his own as a force against the run & with some better talent elsewhere on the DL may become a QB killer. Smart.terrific work ethic & high motor.

    Re: Chris Long?????

Long has made steady improvements. As others have mentioned, he is seen as a player who tries to do everything a defensive end should rather than going all out to hit the passer and getting caught out of position. He gets some sacks and other pressures that could have been sacks, but you never see him just fly right past the blocker like some of the top defensive ends will on occasion.

He's probably not quite as good as what people wish a top five pick would be, but he's a valuable and well-liked contributor nonetheless. Even if he never got better than he is today, I would expect that the team would make a sincere effort to re-sign him.

    Re: Chris Long?????

There are numerous times that Chris Long would have sacks. Just even a quarter of a second more, and his sack count for this season would be increased by at least 4-5.

Chris Long is going to have a very respectable career in the NFL.

    Re: Chris Long?????

In his endeavor to be a COMPLETE player his sack total is diminished. As he matures as a player and possibly gets some help he can only get better.

Sack numbers don't prove crap when it comes to how good a player is..

They are not the only indicator on whether a player is good or not but they are one of the indicators.

    Re: Chris Long?????

HUGE upside with this kid. If we can actually get someone in the middle of the line (read: S-U-H), I believe his numbers will improve tremendously. If Suh is the beast everyone seems to think he'll be, he'll be double teamed. Add a decent rusher from the other end, and teams will have a very hard time with Chris Long. I like this kid. I like his attitude, his motor and his heart.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!!
