Convo with Carriker
It just so happens that my parents live up the street from Adam Carriker, so the weekend of father's day I was home hanging out with the fam when none other than AC comes up to my house to hang out for the day. I was a little awestruck at the size of this man, but after a little while I got around to chatting him up and asking him about the season.
He reported that he felt about 75-80% at the time, but would definitely be ready for the first game. He wasn't sure about training camp. He called Chris Long a "little guy" and also said that Long had been teasing him about lying to the media saying that Carriker was "extremely athletic" and "quick." I figured that this is some kind of friendly rivalry between the two.
When I asked him about who was going to be our center, he was of the opinion that it would be Romberg, because Incognito needs a position where he doesn't have to think that much, as he is more of a mauler, less of a thinker. But he didn't seem really up to date on things on the offensive side. He also said that our new TE Anthony Becht is generally hated by all defensive ends b/c hes a "really good holder." Which is d-end speak for a good blocker.
I asked him what he thought of Linehan, and he said that he didn't really deal with him too much. But he does like all of the defensive coaches.
He did say that he has very high hopes for this year, adding that last year was a fluke with all of the injuries (big surprise)
That was about all that we covered, nothing truly revelatory, but just as everyone says, he is an extremely nice guy, if not super-intimidating because of his size.

Re: Convo with Carriker
I really hope Carriker is ready by week one. Preseason, I could really careless for. Sure he'll miss out on some of the playing time, but if he's near 100% near week one, I won't complain. I can't wait to see what he brings this year with a solid D-Line, especially with Long and Little up to form again.

Thanks for the first-hand report Cweezy. It is always nice to be reminded that the Pro's spend some of thier time just like the rest of us. I like AC and I think he will be integral to our team.

Wow! What a privilege.
Please be sure to tell AC about ClanRam and do try a scrimmage play against him, you being the OL of course!
Welcome to the Clan, Cweez!

Curious to why AC came to your house to hang out? Do your parents know him or does he just stop by random homes for the day?

Re: Convo with Carriker
ok if this is true then surely you have pictures for proof correct? i mean it would be nearly impossible for someone to spend the day with a first round draft pick and not take any pictures?

Well like most football players who are also students, they are not necessarily the smartest guys on campus.

I dunno. Richie seemed to do o.k. with the line calls when he played center for 12 games in '06. Romberg just strikes me as the kind of player that you're always looking to replace.
Sidenote: I can't wait for training camp to get here. I guess the older you get the more IMpatient you become?

Re: Convo with Carriker
Well, just yesterday, on my way to work, here in Huntsville, Alabama, I ran into none other than, Scott Linehan, at the local BP while grabbing my early morning snack ...
Shocked, I asked him what he was doing way down in here in Alabama, and he replied, telling me that he made to drive down to take advantage of the lower gas prices, which are more than $0.15 cheaper here than in St. Louis. He seemed distraught and couldn't understand the flucuation in prices between Alabama and Ohio???
I asked him about his thoughts on the upcoming season and he said the chicken would be a little heavier on the barbeque sauce and the shrimp would get a new chipolte/teriakyi deal. He said he was no longer fond of paprika, but would be using a little more parsley and basil ...
Sorry ... it's been a long day :-)

Funny you should mention that Infiniti! Yesterday, while i was buying tires at Discount Tires right here in Friendswood i ran into Marc Bulger! He wouldn't talk football, though. He just kept ranting about how much Michelin tires were over priced and over-rated! ..............I bought them anyway.
After that we went to Hooters for wings and brews!!! And we laughed, and we laughed!!

I guess Richie must've cheated on his Wonderlic test then... he got a 32.
Carriker scored a 28.

Re: Convo with Carriker
In response to the questions, I didn't get any pictures because I felt that it was kinda strange at the time. He lives down the street from my parents in a house that my dad built. In fact, I have several family members that live in this same small neighborhood. So the Carriker's have adopted my extended family as a surrogate family to hang out with (both Adam and his wife have big families of their own and miss the family time). Unfortunately, I live in Denver so I don't get to hang out very often.
Adam Timmerman used to live in the neighborhood across the street, and Orlando Pace lives nearby as well, I used to see him riding around in his blacked out escalade.
