    Could Pace move to RT?

If Baron is not ready to play at RT and he is better suited or more comfortable at LT, then why not move Pace to RT and let Baron play at the LT position?

Re: Could Pace move to RT?

Because you want your Pro Bowl tackle to protect your quarterback's blindside. Pace would certainly solve the RT problems, but I'm not sure why anyone would want a technically-unsound rookie to protect Marc's blindside in this kind of offense. Pace is a rock on the left. We just need to get one on the right as well, and hopefully that can be Barron.

    ZigZag,

Take it easy on people, why can't we bat around possible changes and their effects?

It doesn't change what happens on Sunday..

I'm from the school where - No question is a dumb question.

    Ferter's thinking outside the box.

No more rediculous than seven sacks by the whiners. At this point, everything should be on the table.

i dont think its that ridiculous. i think barron still needs some time to be game ready. however, i believe it could have worked had barron got to camp on time. right now, i just think it would be too much of a question mark, especially since he would be protecting the blind side.

If Barron can pass protect adequately from the Left side, that's the IF.

If that is true, the ole' Desperate times call for desparate measures adage comes to mind.

Orlando Pace is our franchise left tackle. Barron will bever be as good as Pace is on the left side, so why move him? Not sure I see the logic in such a move.

Barron will be able to make the switch soon enough. He will be the starting RT next year, if not in a month or so. Remember it took Orlando Pace 3 games to be activated, and even more to start.

Are you positive Barron will never be as good on the left side? If Barron is effective on the left side while Pace is effective on the right, is it a good move? Sometimes it just takes giving things a try. Aeneas Williams moved from corner to safety and made the pro bowl.

Don't most teams put their best DE on the left side (going up against the RT?)

So why not put Barron at LT?

There's actually several factors that go into that. However, a lot of the top pass rushers have spent a lot of time on the left side (Bruce Smith, Reggie White, Stahan, Little), but there are plenty of teams that play their premier DE on the right side (Arizona, Buffalo, Denver, Tampa, Indy, Miami, Jax, etc.)

Its Fine To Throw Around Ideas Like That, But I For One Am Not Sure That Would Be In Our Best Interest, leave Pace Where He Is.

Re: Could Pace move to RT?

I don't think Ferter is saying Barron would be as good as Pace at LT. He would have to be drunk to think a thing like that. His point, I believe, is that we would downgrade at LT say by 3 degrees but upgrade at RT by 6 degrees (numbers are arbitrary for demo purposes). Yes, we will obviously downgrade at LT but would it upgrade the entire line as a whole? That is all that really matters. Having someone as good as Pace at LT when you have a revolving door at RT is a complete waste.

Not really, IMO. You'd boost your blocking on the right only to see more pressure coming from the left. At least if someone's coming from the right side, Bulger can see it and, in theory, react. If it's coming from his blind side, the left side, he won't.
