Current Rams vs. All-Ex-Rams Team
Who would win... the 2005 Rams or this team:
QB: Kurt Warner, Arizona
RB: Lamar Gordon, Philadelphia
FB: James Hodgins, Arizona
WR: Ricky Prohel, Carolina
WR: Az Hakim, New Orleans
TE: Ernie Conwell, New Orleans
OT: Wayne Gandy, New Orleans
OG: Zach Wiegert, Houston
C: John St. Clair, Chicago
OG: Matt Lehr, Atlanta
OT: Ryan Tucker, Cleveland
DE: Grant Wistrom, Seattle
DT: Jeff Zgonina, Miami
DT: Brian Young, New Orleans
DE: Bryce Fisher, Seattle
OLB: Tommy Polley, Baltimore
MLB: London Fletcher, Buffalo
OLB: Robert Thomas, Green Bay
CB: Dre Bly, Detroit
CB: Dexter McCleon, Kansas City
FS: Kim Herring, Cincinnati
SS: Matt Bowen, Washington
Looking at that roster, a couple of things are apparent:
1. The Rams have lost a lot more talent on the defensive side of the ball than they have on offense.
2. Teams that have played the Rams have also raided their roster. Of the 22 players, 8 are now on current or former NFC West rivals.
Re: Current Rams vs. All-Ex-Rams Team
That's a pretty weak offense, but the defense looks formidable. I think the ex-team beats the current team 21-20. Gordon leads the way with 22 carries for 134 yards and 2 TDs. Warner is 22-39 for 289 yards and a TD. Fletcher leads the D with 13 stops. Bly has a pair of picks and Young recovers a Jackson fumble to end the game.
Re: Current Rams vs. All-Ex-Rams Team
i like our chances. i think we could run on that team and i think we would have at least some shot at getting pressure on warner with that line. To me, it still comes down to this: the two impact players we lost were fletcher and bly. Bly was unavoidable i think, hindsight being 20-20, the fletcher for duncan deal worked out about as well as the nolan ryan for jim fregosi and leroy stanton deal did for the mets in 1971.

Re: Current Rams vs. All-Ex-Rams Team
When a majority of the money is on the offensive side of the ball, the defense is going to be picked clean. For some reason, the beancounters wouldn't sign Wistrom, Fisher, or Fletcher due to influences outside of Martz control.

Re: Current Rams vs. All-Ex-Rams Team
Well, if it was against this current team with the Corners decimated like this week, I think there are 3 or 4 college teams that could keep up offensively.
Doesn't this team have a lot more salary cap room next year? Warners dead money ends, doesn't it? And the cap is going up so all teams will have a little more room....and possibly restructure Ike?
If they can get Butler back as the primary corner, they should be able to get by with Groce as #2, and one of the other newbies (Johnson/Bartell) or even Fisher as the 3rd guy. It just looks so bad when you move that whole list down a tier with Butler out.
Perhaps bring in a coach who can run a 3-4, using Little and/or Hargrove as LB's.
With Furry/Atogwe and Archuleta/Carter at safeties.
..and a guy specifically brought in to kick off into the end zone every time?
Is this not enough, or do they need to scrap the whole defense?

Re: Current Rams vs. All-Ex-Rams Team
- 'Cankle' man - Jeff Zgonina
- London Fletcher
Two guys that I feel the RAMS should have paid to keep.

Well, Martz wanted to keep Fisher but the powers with the checkbook voted him down. That's factual. I think everyone knew that Wistrom was going to be overpaid, but Fletcher was let go by Lovie so that he could bring in Duncan.
