Dahl + Payne?
Since James Butler will miss "significant time" we will need guys to step up and replace him. Craig Dahl and Kevin Payne.
From the play of Dahl, he showed he was getting a lot better as the season went on. Payne is also a good backup and I think the duo will do a fine job of filling in.
Do you guys think they are adequate starters and will preform well?

Re: Dahl + Payne?
payne had basically a pro-bowl type year starting for chicago at ss a few years ago, struggled a lot more when he was moved to fs. dahl showed he can play the run very well, though his coverage is a bit weak. i think there's potential with either one of those guys, i don't know that we lose much with butler going down.

Re: Dahl + Payne?
I really liked what I saw from Dahl last season. If he has improved this offseason I am not too worried about missing Butler. Don't know much about Payne, just that, as mentioned, he was having a pretty good year in Chicago not too long ago.

Re: Dahl + Payne?
Butler is a serviceable safety, but his contributions probably aren't irreplaceable. The coaching staff seems high on Dahl, so he could contend for time there if he's not relegated to backing up Atogwe full-time. Payne has showed flashes, but like a number of other Rams, has had problems staying on the field. He spent much of his rookie season on IR with a broken arm, needed offseason shoulder surgery after a good 2008 campaign, and then was on the injury list a number of times during the 2009 season for the Bears. Either of these guys could probably step in and do okay, and it sounds like we'll get the chance to see just that, depending on how long Butler is out.

Just putting this out there.
How about Jerome Murphy?

Re: Dahl + Payne?
That probably wouldn't work knowing him as being the most "aggressive corner" coming out of last years draft. I also this Marquis Johnson could get some playing time. Last I heard he was doing alright with moving around in that secondary. I guess we will have to see though.
