Darian Stewart!
Anybody else beginning to notice this guy? Big, physical missile of a safety, and has apparently taken the 3rd safety spot and booted James Butler down to special teams duty ...
Solid tackler, and appears sound in coverage. They are using him as a box safety, and bringing him in on some blitz packages ...
Yet another player they pulled out of the duldrums.

Re: Darian Stewart!
Yeah I noticed the same thing during the whiners game. I saw him on defense from time to time and I assumed that Butler wasnt fully ready to play again. But then Butler got a illegal block in the back penalty on a punt return and I realized that he is above butler on the depth chart now.
Do you guys remember how much Bulter's contract was for? If I remember correctly it was somewhere in the 3-4 mil range. Thats a little too much for a special teamer

Re: Darian Stewart!
yeah i`ve noticed him..for me he`s like the CJ Ah You of the secondary..you kinda forget about him during the week outside of game time..but he makes good cameo`s when called upon week in week out.
maybe he`s got some major flaws in his game that are being concealed due to how he`s being used but i can`t say i`ve noticed one yet.
you know picking up players like Stewart in some ways excite me more than Bradford & Laurinaitis etc..because any GM/HC could see their talent..finding multiple diamonds in the rough is where the real skills come into play and is what the elite teams do on a regular basis.

Re: Darian Stewart!
I noted his tackling in the gameday thread, after his second great tackle. Hopefully he keeps making a name for himself on this d and gets some more playing time.

Re: Darian Stewart!
5' 11'' 215 lbs....rookie Safety out of ? Roster says South Carolina, profile says USC Trojans. The official site needs to figure out which USC.
16 tackles, 1 sack. From Darby's home town, Huntsville, Alabama
I'd say the mere fact he's a rookie explains why we're just now seeing him come forward. Bodes really well for next year.
Spags knows his defensive ...stuff !!Last edited by MACD; -12-28-2010 at 08:31 AM.

Re: Darian Stewart!
I'm pretty sure it's South Carolina. Certainly would make sense, hailing from Alabama.

Re: Darian Stewart!
Someone posted a comment last week about how weak our depth is and mentioned Stewart as someone who shouldnt even be on the roster! I stood up for Stewart, hes a rookie, and has shown some real glimpses of being a really good player in our system.
Nice to see others are now recognising his good play

Re: Darian Stewart!
I noticed this guy back in August. He made some nice plays in the preseason and I thought he could really be a nice part of this defense..he has proven he deserves to be here.

Re: Darian Stewart!
Iv stood next to him twice this year and at 6'0 I stand over him......
lol hes played better recently, stuggled at the begining of his time (up untill like 3 weeks ago),
But he is one of the smallest on the team, the words big and missile are quite opposite of him. However has been ok in coverage recently and been a good open field tackler.
