    The Defensive effort...in perspective.

16 - That's the number of 1st downs given up to the Jaguars, which was the Defense's lowest amount of the season until last night's 7 total 1st downs allowed.

282 - Lowest number of total yards allowed in a game (Panthers) this season, and in fact, the only game allowing less than 300 total yards. Last night they gave up 135 yards, less than half the previous low.

November 29, 2009 - That's the last time the Defense held a team to double digit passing yards, prior to last night's 91 yards. That too was the Seahawks.

September 16, 2007 - The last time the Defense held a team to less than 100 passing yards AND less than 100 rushing yards.

    And here's the clincher......

96 - That was the total yards given up to the Saints in a 27-7 win. That was the last game that the Rams Defense gave up less than last night's 135 yards allowed. The D was led by Nolan Cromwell's 2 picks of Archie Manning. That game was November 24th, 1980. I don't know if they matched last night's 7 sacks.......because that's so far back in time sacks. didn't. yet. exist.

I'd add that the Seahawks had 11 net passing yards apart from the TD, which was a bit of a fluke play.

And to think, if JJ made that pick, their total passing yards would have been 11.

...and the naysayers will jump in and say....their tackles are awful...sidney rice got hurt early...etc...etc. Bottom line, it was a 6-1 Seahawks coming into St. Louis as double digit favorites with many more predicting a complete blowout. The Rams Defense flat out came to play and left a mark on the game. If it weren't for one big play by the Seahawks and some horrible early throws by Clemens this is a different result altogether. I'm proud of the team and I enjoyed watching a truly competitive game with us having a chance to win it at the end. Sheer disappointment for a little while was wiped out by the pride this defense showed AND the running game that has and is continuing to develop. We may have really found our workhorse back and to have him rush for 134 yards against that Seattle D is no joke.

I wonder how many teams in NFL history have had such an outstanding defensive effort and lost? It's sickening and disheartening to me to know that even if our defense plays lights out the rest of the season, we still can and will lose most games. Ugh.

I wish this defense woke up at game 1.

I'm bumping this thread. That was, IMO, the best defensive outing by any team this season. I understand why we're talking about our QB woes right now, but Long, Quinn, and the others deserve some credit for this one.

Chris Long has sacked Wilson 6 times over the past two games he has played against the Seahawks.

    Re: The Defensive effort...in perspective.

Many of us have been waiting for this type of defensive scheme from the Rams. I know I have. Boy did it work.

Stack the box, shut down the run, and dare them to drop back in the pocket.

We have solid cover CBs and a premier pass rush. We tied for most sacks in the league last season!

Enough of the four-man rushes and soft coverage.

If last night proved anything, it's that this defense has the talent to compete with the best, if the coaching staff has faith in them to.

Obviously, this game plan had a lot to do with the opponent, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Not to mention our franchise QB is out for the season. Time to gamble a little bit and see what we've really got.
