Rather than being trapped with one option, I will break down former head coach options and current assistant options, and you will be able to vote for the former head coach you would most like, as well as the assistant you would most like. Without further ado, the candidates:

    Former Head Coach Options:

    1. Jon Gruden

Odds of a Marriage: Slim. 10-2
    Tale of the Tape:
Career Record of 95-81 with two teams Bucs and Raiders
5-4 career postseason record (5 appearances in 11 years)
    1x Super Bowl winning coach
Traded in 2002 by the raiders to the Bucs for two first round picks, two second round picks, and $.
    Bottomline:
I have been on a Gruden crusade all season, however I'm not 100% sure if he comes out of retirement he'd want to take over this mess. A marriage with a team like the Giants or returning to Philly where it all started for him unfortunately makes more sense.

    2. Bill Cowher

Odds of a Marriage: Slim. 15-1.
    Tale of the Tape:
Career Record of 149-90-1 all with Pittsburgh
12-9 Postseason Record (10 Appearances in 15 seasons)
    Two Super Bowl appearances
    1x Super Bowl Winner
    Bottomline:
Like Gruden, teams will be ringing his phone off the hook. He will be highly sought after, and is much more likely to go to a team that isn't in disarray. I would love to see the chin in STL, I just don't think it's realistic. He also openly said he doesn't see himself returning this year, and has been heavily linked to the Giants job should Coughlin get fired.

    3. Jeff Fisher

Odds of a Marriage: High. 3-1.
    Tale of the Tape:
Career Record of 142-120 all with Tennessee
5-6 career postseason record (6 appearances in 17 seasons)
1 super bowl appearance, losing to yours truly so we can forgive the fact he has 0 super bowl rings.
    Bottomline:
It was reported in October by John Czarnecki that someone in the Rams organization said Kroenke was in contact with Fisher about becoming the next Rams head coach. The marriage makes sense, because while high profile Fisher is the lesser of Gruden and Cowher. I think this could be reminiscent of when Kroenke hired George Karl to become Denver's new HC. In my opinion, hes gonna want someone with exp and Fisher could be the easiest to bag.

Not going to go past the big three or speculate on Andy Reid because I don't think he gets fired.

Now onto the assistants. I won't put odds on a marriage for the assistants because they are current assistants and just want a shot at being a head coach and will go anywhere no matter how much of a mess the state of the franchise currently is.

    Current Assistant Options:

    1. Rob Ryan

A defensive guru with the type of personality that immediately draws the attention of anyone in the room, Ryan could be the perfect assistant to change the culture at Rams park. His brother, Rex, was hired the same year we hired Spags and has taken the Jets to back to back AFC championships. Their father, Buddy, was a successful head coach. Coaching just runs in the Ryan family. One thing to remember, this job could be particularly interesting to Rob, because of there connection to the area. It was reported that this was Rexs desired landing spot before we handed the keys to Spags (whoops). That's what happens when you hire friends Billy. Rob has always gotten the most out of his defenses, and I think he could bring personality and an identity to a team with none.

    2. Gregg Williams

    Tale of the Tape:
    Career coaching record of 17-31.
Zero playoff appearances in three seasons.
    Bottomline:
He fits both criteria for those looking for someone who is currently still employed yet has been a head coach at some point. Like Rob he is a defensive guru. He coached the Saints defense to a Super Bowl vs the Colts. He has a knack for having a blitz heavy defense that is big on producing turnovers. I think he would relish the opportunity to become a HC again.

    3. Rob Chudzinski

A QB specialist Rob is coaching Cam Newton to one of the greatest rookie seasons we will ever see from a QB. He also is known for being the QB coach for Cleveland the year that erratic, inaccurate mess, Derek Anderson had a pro bowl type year and bought Cleveland within one game of the playoffs. He could be just what the doctor ordered for Sam. A HC, with a label as a QB specialist, something tells me Sam would definitely endorse this one and could hopefully become Chudzinskis next great QB... For many years.

    Wild card: Mike Martz

    Tale of the Tape:
Career Record of 53-32 all with the Rams
3-4 career postseason record (4 appearances in 6 seasons)
One super appearance (cheated out of a ring)
One super bowl ring as OC of the greatest show on turf.
    Bottomline:
Mad Mike is a name that many fans are throwing around to try and bring back the glory days He has been currently linked to the open head coaching position at Arizona State. I don't see this happening. The Martz era ended to abruptly for him to come back here. He may not have been the best game manager , but looking at the accolades, and the fact we were 2-3 when he was fired... I'm thinking it was a big mistake. I think there's about a zero percent chance he comes back, but figured I'd throw his name in the poll as a wildcard for those Martz fans.

If you choose other Former HC or other assistant please provide who and discuss. I would love for this to become a running thread and poll until our new HC is crowned as opposed to a billion threads being made between now and then.

Please vote for 1 assistant and one former HC. This is a PUBLIC poll. No hiding who you stand behind .

4 weeks til D-Day for Spagsy.

Thanks for reading and Go Rams
that Last pic of MARTZ is classic, reminds me of Nixon or something....lol

Re: In depth look at potential HC candidates w/ multi choice poll.

Am I going crazy, or did anyone take Grudens comments last night as sort of an on air interview for the Rams job? He covered Jacksonville post Del Rio firing and never made the comment "If I came here as the next head coach ...." But he made it a point to make the comment on air last night..

Maybe we do have a shot at one of these big name coaches.

Am I just being blinded by my desire to get Gruden, or did anyone else get this vibe as well?

It does seem like Spags has a lot of support still, but surely Kroenke is sharpening the knives as we speak.? Ill take any from Fisher, Gruden or Cohwer, if the Rams are committed to turning this thing round, then Stan has to think big. Otherwise we might as well stick with Spags.?

I am starting the Bring Us Mike Mularkey (BUMM) organization.

He has head coaching experience. In my opinion he was probably instrumental in Ryan's successful development and he has put together an offensive unit that can... wait for it.... actually score.

Him and his wife are both billionaires...Surely if he is committed to winning, and turning this thing around he will use the necessary finances to reel in a big fish head coach.

One thing to keep in mind-- He got George Karl out of retirement in Denver, who signed a big money contract. Hopefully he cares about us as much as he did the Nuggets, and we can pull one of those big guys out of retirement. Use your $$$$$tan

Re: In depth look at potential HC candidates w/ multi choice poll.

    Interesting nugget I found:

Plagued by injuries and inconsistencies, the Nuggets got off to a horrible start and haven't really recovered. Coach Jeff Bzdelik lost his job Dec. 28 and Denver has been only marginally better under interim coach Michael Cooper, entering Friday's game 17-25 and 121/2 games out of first place in the Northwest Division.
Clearly Kroenke isnt going to let injuries effect his decision making.

Karl brings plenty of credibility, ranking 13th all-time with 708 wins and leading his teams to five division titles and 13 playoff appearances in 16 seasons. He has also had experience turning around underachieving teams.

Karl helped Seattle reach the playoffs in 1991-92 after a 20-20 start cost coach K.C. Jones his job, and led the Sonics to three 60-win seasons in five years, including a trip to the 1996 NBA Finals.
Clearly has a liking for coaches w exp.

Another interesting note...Karl was an analyst at ESPN before being hired by Denver.

Hope we Kroenke can lure another coach outta retirement w a big money deal

This is Kroenke's first big decision as Principal Owner- and there is no more important decision to be made. It is absolutely critical for everyone- from the fans to the players to the organization itself that he get it right. One would think that a man like Kroenke, vastly successful throughout his life and certainly no stranger to owning teams and the sports landscape, would be thoroughly prepared to make a sound hire.

As you pointed out, it will be interesting to see if his decision making with the Nuggets in hiring Karl will parallel his approach with the Rams. And money certainly should be no object to a man who is wealthy beyond our imagination.

Stan will either win the love of millions of Rams fans or continue the downward spiral of this once proud franchise. Let's hope for all our sakes (and my personal sanity) he does the former.

OK then. If he can bring them out of retirement then go get Mike Ditka.
    The break, don't bend offense.
