Devaney on Trading Jackson: "Never even crossed my mind"

    Jackson stays, Rams vow
    BY JIM THOMAS
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    Friday, Dec. 25 2009

A holiday message from Rams general manager Billy Devaney: The answer's still
"no" on any Steven Jackson trade.

With the offseason fast approaching, the Internet chats and fan forums already
are churning with rumors and "advice" for Devaney. Among them, of course, the
ever present trade Jackson for a boatload of draft picks thread.

Devaney shot down such rumors in October as the trade deadline approached. And
with the offseason just 10 days away for the Rams, he was more than happy to
    shoot them down again.

"It's something that's never even crossed my mind," Devaney said in a recent
interview. "It's something that I couldn't imagine. We're trying to bring good
players into the building. Why would we want (to trade) our best guy — one of
the best players in the NFL regardless of position?"

Jackson enters Sunday's game against Arizona with 1,353 yards rushing, second
in the NFL to Chris Johnson's 1,730 yards for Tennessee. Jackson is third in
the NFL in yards from scrimmage (1,675), trailing Johnson (2,176) and
    Baltimore's Ray Rice (1,797).

    2010 OPPONENTS SET

On paper at least, the Rams will face a less daunting schedule in 2010, with
only five of the 16 games against opponents that currently have a winning
record. But the home schedule is less attractive than the '09 version which has
seen Brett Favre, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and the Green Bay Packers visit
    the Edward Jones Dome.

Because the Rams have "clinched" fourth place in the NFC West, and Detroit (NFC
North) and Washington (NFC East) have done the same in their divisions, all
opponents for next seasons have been determined. According to the Official NFL
Record and Fact Book, it breaks down as follows:

    — Home: Arizona, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Carolina, Kansas City, San
    Diego, Washington.

    — Away: Arizona, San Francisco, Seattle, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Denver,
    Oakland, Detroit.

The dates and times won't be determined until spring.

    LOOKS LIKE NULL

Coach Steve Spagnuolo, as usual, is shying away from announcing Sunday's
starting quarterback, but all signs continue to point to rookie Keith Null. For
the second day in a row, Null got the vast majority of the snaps with the
    starters during practice.

"He's improved from his first game to his second," offensive coordinator Pat
Shurmur said. "I'm looking forward to seeing more improvement this week. We're
going to go into an environment (Arizona) where it tends to be loud. They're a
terrific defense. They challenge the throws. He's going to have to be on top of
    his game."

    STILL NO LITTLE

After missing the Houston game with a knee infection, defensive end Leonard
Little appears no closer to returning this week against the Cardinals. Little
has been a spectator so far this week at practice, with his right knee wrapped.

"It kind of flared up before we played Tennessee, and then after we played
Tennessee it really got flared up," Little said.

He took antibiotics for the knee all last week, but then was sent to the doctor
by team medical officials last Thursday. "He had to do emergency surgery to get
    all the infection," Little said.

The procedure basically cleaned out the knee but left an open wound. Little
said the wound has to close "somewhat" before he can play. "I'm trying to make
it hurry up," said Little, who leads the team in sacks (6) and quarterback
    hits (13).

    INJURY UPDATE

He's off the crutches and doing some walking, but QB Marc Bulger (shin bone)
has been ruled out of Sunday's game; OT Jason Smith (concussion) and CB Quincy
Butler (ankle, knee) haven't been ruled out, but neither has practiced this
week and neither will play Sunday.

Jackson (back) continues to do rehab work on the side but once again did not
practice Thursday. CB Ron Bartell (hip) was taken off the injury report.

That's exactly what I've been saying

We have arguably the best player in the league on our team, as well as exciting, why the hell would we trade him away for a bunch of noobs?

i really like our scheduled opponents next year, besides the chargers, all our home games look winnable as do most the road games.
hopefully we can take advantage of it.

The trade Jackson rumors came from the same place that the sign Vick ideas came from - out of someone's .... imagination... someone who knows less about football than they do about trolling.

what the hell does anyone think he is going to say ? of course he says that but to think the subject was never brought up is just silly, I agree that there is no way they trade him but guys be realistic.

Nope. We have several. They are kind of like potato chips. You can't have just one.

I wonder if the same folks who want Jackson traded away would mind if someone went to their houses and took the foundation out from under them. Same concept...

    Anyhoo, I'm right with ya.

There's always going to be two sides to this, and I doubt that anyone would waiver.

I would trade Jackson if I thought it would make my team better.

That's what I can say as a fan that Devaney cannot, as a GM.
