Re: Did the Pats cheat to win Super Bowl 36

I think I miss the days of the bump and run and man coverages. I guess it depends on what you like. I like to see a physical defense. I am not that thrilled about the pussyfoot prevent zones of today's game. I understand there usage and what teams are trying to accomplish. That is not to say that zone coverage is useless but I do like to see defenses change things up. Just as there are many ways or schemes on the offensive side of the ball there is also more than one way to play defense. There are some grey areas in the rules and I think you have to give some defensive coaches credit for designing schemes to stop or slow down today's high powered offenses. Damn near every rule has been tweaked in the last umpteen years to give the offense the edge to begin with. When it comes right down to it, I guess the old adage "Defense Wins Championships" still rings true.

I too liked things better with the bump and run Ferter. It's ironic that the NFL chucked the bump and run to spice up the offensive side of the game, then progressed to a point where defenses are once again allowed to slow it down.

Without a doubt they cheated but we still had plenty of chances to win the game

IMHO the worst non call of the gamer came on the pats last series. Our D-fence had brady cornered for a huge loss or sack and he intentionally grounded the ball with a no call and then they make a first down. Even the announcer was a little perplexed with THAT non call. The rest is history. No int. for seven and we win hands down .... :disappoin

Unfortunately, it took the same tactics being used by the same team again to another high octane offense in the AFC championship game last year before something was done(I'm waiting to see if they do follow through). They were mugging Marvin Harrison and Pollard blatantly in that game also. Steve Young supposedly said he had complained about Belechek defenses for years during games to no avail. Dungy is full member of competition committee and would be a good ally for Martz - here's hoping receivers can run their routes now without being mugged.
