Did the Rams Chances of getting to the playoffs improve or worsen?
(BTW, what's the opposite of improve? Diminish? Decline?)
So really only 2 things changed in the race for the last Wild Card spot this week from last:
#1. Tampa lost
#2. There is 1 less game left to catch up
Point #2 point is major because now there is only 3 games left and Dallas and Washington both won games that were key in the formula of potential games they could lose. (yes, they play each other, but if either or both have 9 wins going into that game, we are in trouble).
#1. is almost irrelevant because we play Tampa and could have given them the needed 1 loss.
Still need a loss by Seattle which could happen vs. SF in 2 weeks.
HOWEVER, athough our chances of getting the last wild card spot may have went down a bit, the other wild card spot COULD open up if Chicago loses to Green Bay. (then, of course we need Chicago to lose to Detroit on the last game, but is only possible if GB beats Chicago this week.
...and I know "we just have to beat Minnesota first", but entertaining the above.

Bottom line is rams must win out before we start looking at tie breaking scenarios, imo we win we in!

Re: Did the Rams Chances of getting to the playoffs improve or worsen?
Bottom line indeed -- as Rammer points out -- as you did as well, Truk.
But it does gets interesting at this point of the season, even complicated, to pencil in all the scenarios and 'mathematical' possibilities. Wow, to think we are contemplating playoff wildcard chances ... talk about a scenario! Talk about a positive change from a year ago.
Again, at the end of the day, i.e., at the end of Sunday, the Rams will have had to WIN. Then we will see how much help was sent our way via the other teams that are in the chase.
But I hope all the teams are aligned properly in the NFL December orbits to increase our outlook.
Good speculative thread.
BTW, I think the opposite of 'improve' is, 'worsen'? Uy, let's not jinx it!

Re: Did the Rams Chances of getting to the playoffs improve or worsen?
It's all about the race to not have seven losses. I believe our chances increased, mainly thanks to haloti ngata's hit on RG3. The key game in all of this will be ***** at Seahawks. A Seahawks loss provides the easiest road to the playoffs. If they win we will need the Bears to have lost twice. If Dallas runs the table vs the Steelers, Saints, and Skins then I'll tip my cap. This of course is assuming we win out. Sure it would have been nice if the bengals and ravens would have knocked out the Boys and Skins but I am still not too worried about those two teams.

I still find it amazing that we're even talking playoffs right now so that's a plus. However; I think Redskins beating the Ravens made our chances worse along with Cowboys beating Bengals. Those were key games that they were suppose to lose. The tie that should have been a win in SF kinda hurt us, along with Seattle getting that fluke win against GB.

Re: Did the Rams Chances of getting to the playoffs improve or worsen?
Ok, so if we are going to drink the kool-aid & dream a lil, lets go BIG. Rams win final 3 games, Niners lose last 3 games, Seahawks lose to Buffalo beat the Niners & lose to the Rams, Rams are division champs. LOL hows that for dreamin.
Rams 9-6-1
Niners 9-6-1
Seahawks 9-7
Of course we need Buffalo to step up & The Cards need to play Way over their heads but hey if I'm going to dream I'm going BIG

Even if we don't make it, I just really hope week 17 matters for us. Give us a few scenarios, I just want to be glued to the TV that week rooting like crazy for a few teams to make it possible for us to get into the dance

Two games hurt us, Detroit and San Fran Tie, if not for those two we'd be 8-5, and Seahawks would have one more loss they game they should have lost to Green Bay. Rams are better than their record says.

Re: Did the Rams Chances of getting to the playoffs improve or worsen?
I hate this kind of thinking. Literally every single team has 2-3 close games they could of easily won and made their record prettier. Just like literally every team has a couple of games they probably should of lost but pulled out. Sure we could of pulled out victories at SF and at DEt but we easily could of lost that same SF game and last week against the BIlls.
I just hate hypotheticals. We are 6-6-1. Those are the facts and we can only work with facts not what ifs.

Re: Did the Rams Chances of getting to the playoffs improve or worsen?
I agree with a poster above. Yeah we should have won detroit and the first sf game. Then again we should have lost the second sf game (david akers miss/hb pitch) and the bills game. So, you can look at the we should have won some games but every team has that.
I say we take it a game at a time and just hold up our end of the bargain. If we win out. I think we will be fine and we will somehow sneak in

Re: Did the Rams Chances of getting to the playoffs improve or worsen?
But in those games, the officials didn't alter the game or play clock to take a win away from our opponents. That is EXACTLY what happened in the Detroit and 1st whiner's game. I do believe we had an easy (for Legatron) FG miss in regulation of the second SF game that negates Akers' miss. How many RAMS' bad plays resulted in a TO, and then points? Should we call those reasons the other team should have lost? Why not give credit for the D executing on a forced mistake? I seem to remember a blitzing player forcing a bad throw that resulted in that scoop-6.
