Do we have any cap left for a veteran RB or Safety?

I gotta admit our RB and Safety situation scares me a little. Do we have any cap space left to sign a 1 year deal for an unsigned FA vet? All of Long's restructuring money just went to signing draft picks right?

I think they could find more money if they wanted too. There really are no RB out there to be had IMO. Quintin Mikell is still out there. I would think if the Rams missed out on the guy they really wanted we will see them sign Quintin Mikell back ASAP.

    Stacy might be the answer.

At this point, all I'm really worried about is safety. We need depth there.

Running back is a position I'm actually excited about rather than worried.

I have a lot of confidence in Pead and Richardson, and after watching quite a bit of film of Zak Stacy, I definitely think he can turn out to be a steal. Has solid speed, great vision, and great balance. He can break a tackle here and there with a spin/juke, and defenders are going to have a hard time getting him onto the ground without wrapping up. He breaks arm tackles easily and uses his great balance to stay on his feet after big hits.

I'm really looking forward to watching him in Horns.

I was weary of the RB situation as well, but the more and more I watch, listen, and read about Zac Stacy, the more confidence I gain in our 3 young backs. Check out this link for a look back through Stacy's decorated career at Vanderbilt. Top 10 Zac Stacy Moments - Vanderbilt Official Athletic Site. The skill positions are very, very young this year, and I anticipate some growing pains, but this offense is going to be more explosive than we have seen for nearly a decade.

As for the safety situation, I am not quite as sold. Darian Stewart is kind of a wildcard. He has played decent in the past, but couldn't beat out Craig Dahl after an early injury. I like TJ McDonald, and I trust Fish knows what hes doing with him. 2 undrafted rookies from last year, and add two more this year and that rounds out our current safety options. A lot of people are high on the two UDFA safties (Armstrong & Davis), but the likely hood they make the team is slim, and the odds they would be able to make a real impact is even slimmer. Thats why I think its in the teams best interest to resign Mikell or target a guy like Kerry Rhodes.

if there`s money available i hope it`s spent on the O-line.

having veteran RB`s or Safeties are not gonna save our number 1 investment if a couple of O-linemen go down.

Not sure why the drop off in production from Mikell last year. The year before he had a bunch of picks and was one of our best defensive players. Did he get in the dog house with Fisher? I think if we make room for him, he can be a big piece of the puzzle for us.

letting Craig Dahl walk was a big upgrade + Ogletree will be able to help in coverage.
