Re: Do you want Spags to stay?
Earlier in the year, there was a part of me that was willing to give him another year just because of all the adversity this team has faced.
But the longer this season drags on, the more I find myself in the mindset that this thing needs to be torn down and rebuilt in someone else's vision. I liked Spags when he was hired and thought he could get it done, but I think this book needs to be closed.

Agreed, book closed.
Have a funny feeling he's going to be decent somewhere else though.

Re: Do you want Spags to stay?
Here we go. Another week with three or four Spags poles.
I've completely given up on his "system" since about week four this season.
But there will be fans here that will continue to give Spags a "pass" because of all the injuries, the lock-out shortened training camp, the hard schedule, etc.... you know... the typical excuses.

Re: Do you want Spags to stay?
Because he's still a great Coordinator Pang. As shown week in and week out, for the most part, the defensive scheme isn't all that bad. Midway through the third we were still somewhat in this game, like many others. It's just his head coaching as a whole is what is lacking...

Re: Do you want Spags to stay?
I did, but I get why people want him gone too. When we hired spags, we went with a defensive minded coach because we had the worst D in the league consistently going back all the way to Martz. He rebuilt our D from scratch, and I feel he brings a pretty great game plan on D each week. I think it's easy to overlook how clever he can be on defense. Note that the players also seem to really like him, and at this point players were at our other coaches throats.
Yes, our offense is a mess. But I don't think that's on spags. In fact, looking at how different our offense is under McD versus Shurmur makes me think spags controls the offense very little if at all.
And regarding game management, I think some people are blowing out of proportion kicking it on 4th down from your own 35, when we have the worst offense in the league. I know I'm kicking it there, stacking against the run and having Skelton beat me.
I get he's probably going to be fired. Maybe he should be. I honestly can't figure out why we're a bad team right now.

Re: Do you want Spags to stay?
I was a Spags holdout clear up until today. I still like some things about the guy. What I don't understand is why many folks who want Spags head want McD to stay. From what I can tell, the defense has ouplayed our offense and continues to fight after the offense has laid down and quit. Besides the effect of the strike, the biggest change to the Rams was at offensive coordinator and look where we are now. If Spags goes, McDaniels has to go too.

Wonder how our defense is going to look next season if he were to be fired.

Re: Do you want Spags to stay?
You know, with all the injuries and other problems, I was ready to give him a pass a few weeks back.
I've changed my mind though. It has nothing to do with us losing, its HOW we're losing. We're getting blown out all the time. The teams hardly even competitive. Its sad because I was really pulling for him but I've lost all faith in him.
He never takes blame for his choices, plays to lose when he never gives the offense a chance to win the games, and he just makes a lot of confusing moves altogether.
Even when we were winning last year, teams made comebacks on us every game because of his defensive philosophy. If we keep him and start getting ahead in games, I don't want to worry about this again.
I think he's a good coordinator and really has somewhat pointed in this team in the right direction, but he's in over his head as of now, in terms of head coaching.

Re: Do you want Spags to stay?
Just about what I was going to say!

The feeling of despondency has reached its peak ... and "when you peak [this way], you LOSE".
Whether coach SS will be let go today, tomorrow or at end of season is relative -- but it is imminent, and necessary. Probably the sooner the better (I was supporting his stay till end of year).
