Does Bradford need to be setting protections?

I think this is a simple question, but who am I.

Does Bradford need to be setting the OL protections?

My thoughts are these. He's a year two QB. He's learning a new offensive system, his second in two years, without the benefit of an offseason. There have been some blown protection calls (from what I've read). He's doesn't appear to be getting through his read progressions and is not seeing the occasionally open WR.

Can this responsibility not be put back on Brown to free the kid up to focus on other things like reading probable coverages?

    Thoughts?

I want the same thing. I want Brown to take over line calls again. Sam has a lot on his plate. It seems like hes missing open WR's more than ever.

No. He needs to learn this. Imagine how good he will be once he gets it down.

Its a Learning curve and the protection calls have been poor. But once he gets it right and the Line gets it together, it should be fine and will serve him well in the future.

I don't think Bradford will make it through this season if he continues to get hit the way he has thus far.It has effected him greatly,so much so,that he is missing open receivers and making too many mistakes.I just want to add that without Jackson in the backfield to draw attention to,it doesn't bode well for the Rams.

I'm surprised you have not received more response from this thread; since the majority of Rams fans posting here last season, were calling for a more aggressive offensive attack.

Now the Rams have that new aggressive system with a second year QB and a surrounding cast that has not fully come together. For a system like this the lockout hurt them badly in terms of lost preparation time.

Personally, I think they have thrown too much at them with not enough learning time. However, when they finally do come together I think they will be better off for having gone through this struggle. That is to say if they all remain injury free, especially so for Bradford.

In reading this site lately, it seems, most fans don't have the patience nor the understanding for what's involved with implementing this new system. Yet most wanted it. If the Rams don't win soon I fear the fans will bring out the call for heads to roll.

Sure, he needs to learn to do it. However, he is getting pummelled. This could have lasting impact. A bad lasting impact.

I vote for the calls being made by the center until things settle down. Then he can start to take it over. Too much at once is a bad thing. Especially with all of these hits!!

Re: Does Bradford need to be setting protections?

I'd like to see Bradford make some progress for the long run but at the same time I'm worried about the hits he's taking as well. IMO, he should have Brown making the O-line plays until he can familiarize himself with the hot reads in a spread offense and then let him make those O-line adjustments during the 2nd half of the season.

Sure, that'd be great, except that right now it's "hike, thud!".
