i remember getting a bad response when i suggested this in a thread about who could be a cap casualty, but he was earning a lot of money, is just coming off an injury, and hasn't had an interception since he signed his free agent deal three years ago

Re: and down goes Ron Bartell.

The Rams' salary purge continues. Bartell was on the books for $6.2 million next season, a prohibitive number after a broken neck limited him to just one game in 2011. He is still rehabbing, and isn't guaranteed to be 100 percent for training camp. He does plan to play in 2012, however, and has been informed he's at no extra risk of injury going forward. A second-round pick in 2005, Bartell was the Rams' longest-tenured defensive player.

I like Bartell and he's a good cover corner, but his salary, age and injury make him an easy candidate for release. I'm not sure if there is any dead money in his contract either, so hypothetically all 7 million of his deal could go towards Finnegan making it a good swap.

Maybe he will re-up for less (if feeling weren't hurt)

A month ago, the Clan discussed Bartell as a possible cap casualty, and now it's come to fruition. Can't say I'm surprised here. Given how highly many Rams fans think of Bartell, it'll be interesting to see what kind of attention he gets on the free agent market. Perhaps age and the neck injury are just too concerning at this point in his career.

Clearly we're paving the way for Justin King! Finally, a chance to showcase just how dangerous he can be.

We already saw how dangerous he could be when he tried to cover Torrey Smith

Re: and down goes Ron Bartell.

Unless either of those players (Hall and Bartell) had guaranteed money (I don't think they did) the Rams have now created 20.75 million in space and have at least 30 million in cap space to spend.
Finnegan and Jones + Colston or VJax now doesn't sound so ridiculous. Maybe they gave give Mario Williams a call

This hurt. I really loved Bartell. He was one of my favourite Rams, and it sucks to see him go! I hope he re-signs somewhere else, and continues his great career!

These kind of things explain why players holdout for more money....nothing is guaranteed unless it's a prepayment!

Re: and down goes Ron Bartell.

Who knows maybe they resign him for a cheaper contract?

    Either way hello Cortland Finnegan.

Im going to be honest CFin is the one player in the NFL I dislike most, but ill put emotion aside. Logically, hes a good player and ill just have to learn to like him in a Rams jersey.

My guess is the cutting of Bartell, ties between Fin and Fish, plus the comments by Fin stating hed love to play here for Fisher are all the implications we need to know that the chances of him coming here are high.
