enough about Linehan....Wilkins is costing us wins..
What the hell is wrong with money? this game could've been different if he would've made those field goals. if he continues this we are gonna have to find a new kicker!!!!

Re: enough about Linehan....Wilkins is costing us wins..
sure, if he continues this for about 20 straight weeks we need to find a new kicker. Wilkins is entitled to have a bad day. I call it a MASSIVE stretch to say that wilkins cost us this win and i have no idea what you mean using the plural, surely you dont think that wilkins missing a 56 yarder (after hitting a 53 yarder) cost us a win last week.
The game MIGHT have been different if he makes those two field goals, but i think its unlikely. First of all, we were pathetic (again) in the red zone. We couldnt score tds and we turned the ball over. Second, the defense collapsed in the second half. Neither of those things had anything to do with wilkins. We cant score tds, we arent going to win in the nfl and neither is any other team and that is the end of the story and it certainly isnt wilkins thats costing us wins.

Re: enough about Linehan....Wilkins is costing us wins..
the wilkins of old could easily make a field goal from the 56 yard line in the dome. he just seems like he doesnt believe in himself anymore. Wilkins missed field goals are big on a teams momentum. miss it and the other team gains hope, make it and your team gains hope. these field goals were big in my eyes. the bottom line is that we keep blaming linehan and we dont blame our players for anything.
PS looking for a new kicker was a joke, i love Wilkins but i hope he gets it together.

Yeah, we really could have used that 22 point FG today.

I was at the game. I can tell you, it would have been very nice if Wilkins had hit those two FGs. But that's not where the game was lost.

Maybe the "game" or lack there of, was lost in week 1 vs the Panteras.

Re: enough about Linehan....Wilkins is costing us wins..
Wilkie missing two FGs today is surprising.
I did not see the game.
1. Were the snaps and hold correct?
2. Was the ball deflected by the Bucs?
3. Did he miss being short or off to the side / hit post?
It's true that those points could have definitely changed the rhythm of the game but ... I also doubt Jeff's FGs would have changed the outcome.
It's beyond that and even Coach Linehan readily admits the offense has to score (more) TDs, not 3 pointers.

Re: enough about Linehan....Wilkins is costing us wins..
My first thought was cynicism when I saw the topic.
I wasn't able to see the game, but it seems the 3 int's might hurt more than the missed field goals?
Or maybe the fumble?
We learned already that a TD beats 2 FG drives, what we need is either better play calling, better execution, or here is a novel idea... both better play calling AND execution!?!?RnD

The wilkins of old would have easily made a 56 yard field goal in the dome.
In his entire pro career, wilkins has hit exactly one 56 yard field goal and that was 10 years ago. Thus, your statement is clearly not correct.
Furthermore, drilling a 53 yard field goal in the 4th quarter with the game on the line against sf, clearly the tail outside edge of his range, is hardly the kick of someone that has lost confidence.
With all due respect, wilkins is the least of our problems. However, i agree he had a bad game.
Turnovers and failure to convert in the red zone is why we are 0-3.

Re: enough about Linehan....Wilkins is costing us wins..
Week 2 - Wilkins, regardless of age, NFL experience, stats, respect etc etc etc etc, Wilkins was under a world of pressure to make that 56 yarder... Hit it and he's an hero, miss it and we all call him..
A kickers job is always a no-win situation.
Remember the stats for kickers in the NFL tend to be, the teams with the worst/bad Offense, have one of the top 5-6 kickers in terms of stats (Neil Rackers, 2 years ago came from no-where to be one of, if not the best kicker for that season, while Zona did not have the power on O it's now got, Now where as Rackers finished last season).
Also IMHO something many people forget when looking at kickers.. -
Whose to blame/take the **** or slack when they under-perform? is it
(i) - The Kicker for missing the FGs or
(ii) - Blame the Offense who CANT for whatever reason get the ball in the Endzone,
if you agree with point (ii) how then time after time, week after week anyone can heap blame/question his kicking on the teams kicker?Last edited by JackieSlater; -09-24-2007 at 10:28 AM. Reason: Spelling
