    ESPN Note about Davis/Jackson

Although Stephen Davis did score a meaningful touchdown in a Week 16 win over the Redskins, the Rams probably wouldn't have minded a little more production on the field this season from the veteran offseason pickup. But we hear the team couldn't be more pleased with the way Davis has filled his role as a mentor to fellow RB Steven Jackson. Word is Davis has spent considerable time off the field helping Jackson become more of a north-south runner in short-yardage situations and has developed a much closer relationship with Jackson than Marshall Faulk had the previous two seasons.
Thought this was an interesting little nugget from ESPN's "Whispers from around the NFL" segment.

davis has not had enough carries to give the rams a lot of production this year... when he has been on the field though he has produced.... i would give him another one yr tender already

I'm glad Davis has been there to help Jackson. Davis has a lot to offer, especially on short yardage situations, and appears Jackson has been all ears. This could bode well in the future.

What if Marshall is ready to comeback? Also Tony Fisher is in the mix.

Sounds like Marshall wasn't ready to pass the torch?

Davis is a free agent after this year, they might sign him. If Marshall decides to play, they'll probably not sign Davis, but Tony Fisher is a free agent too. So they might let Tony go and re-sign davis, tony will probably go, he hasnt done much this year

I would definetly let Tony go and Marshall well our money would be better served elsewhere. I'm kinda split on whether we should resign Davis or not. On one had he has produced when given carries and it sounds like he has been a solid mentor to Steven but I wouldn't mind seeing us pick up a speed back to compliment Jackson. This maybe a moot point though as anyone backing up Steven is not going to see alot of time especially with his pass catching abilities and the talent we have at qb and wide receiver.

Davis is a sure keeper for another year, IMO. It is quite evident that he and Jax are a fine RB duo, even if the production scale is lopsided.

Stephen has been the master, Steven the hero -- and that formula will remain even if the grand Marshall returns to add luxury to our depth, i.e., two old masters, one young hero / stud. The Three Ramamigos.

I have to admit i was skeptical with the Davis signing. it kind of seemed like it was gonna be another Emmitt Smith kind of deal, but i like the way it has worked out. good personnel decision.

I agree, Davis has come through when we've needed him. He's definitely a north-south running back and picks up good yardage when given the chance. I wonder if he could be used on screens. He could be pretty dangerous like Fisher has been.

Jackson seems to have learned from Davis and its showing on the field. I'd like to keep him around myself.

i think a question that needs to be asked here is can Davis still carry the load should Jackson get hurt during next season ? if the answer is yes then bring him back because i really think we have seen the last of Mr. Faulk.
