ESPN Radio - McCollum's Injury Season Ending

Sorry if I mispelled his name, but just heard it is season ending. Will look for proof.

    Hmmm... This still says might:

Rams center Andy McCollum had made 156 straight NFL starts before leaving Sunday's game against the Broncos with a knee injury. Now that streak might be in serious jeopardy.

While the Rams said Sunday that McCollum's injury was a sprain, team sources told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch that it is a season-ending injury.

McCollum wasn't available for comment after Sunday's game, but according to the newspaper he was wearing a brace on his leg. He was to undergo an MRI on Monday.

The 13-year veteran was replaced by Larry Turner after leaving Sunday's game in the second quarter. The Rams went on to beat Denver, 18-10.

McCollum out for the season with knee injury

Scott Linehan’s fears were confirmed Monday -– center Andy McCollum will miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

McCollum, 36, suffered ACL and MCL tears in his left knee during Sunday's 18-10 victory. He will undergo reconstructive surgery in a few weeks.

"It's tough," coach Scott Linehan said. "He was playing real well. It's the unfortunate part of our game."

For the moment, Larry Turner remains the starting center and Richie Incognito will work as the back-up. But the Rams will attempt to sign a proven center within the next few days.

Linehan gave Turner good grades for his fill-in performance against the Broncos. He got overpowered on one pass rush, but otherwise held his own and his exchanges with quarterback Marc Bulger went smoothly.

Also, Linehan said defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy underwent hand surgery Monday. Pins were inserted to stabilize his broken hand bones, but Kennedy will be able to play Sunday with a new, more comfortable cast on his hand.

Kennedy returned to Sunday’s game after the broken hand was diagnosed; he played with a cast and graded out well.

as Darth Vader once said, "NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

But life will go on, and as happens every year, we will do some shifting and the rest of unit will pick up the slack. Let's just hope that unlike other years, this is our only O Line injury.

I wish McCollum a speedy recovery, and hopefully we'll see him next year to help defend our Superbowl win.

The man had quite a string of games started in the NFL! 13 years in the league, he turns 37 next year.

Doctors / medicine / technology can do wonders nowadays but with the pounding that OLmen take in pro football, and with a blow to the knee like he suffered yesterday, we might not see our big center back next season.

Really sorry about that injury, Andy McCollum. :\ Take care of yourself.

There are plenty of proven centers out there... proven to be unworthy of NFL rosters, that is.
