Re: Every time Gibson was targeted in 2012
Brandon Gibson is a potato.
Now, don't get me wrong... I like potatoes. They're versatile, and go with most dishes. At times, when made in certain ways, they can be excellent.
But you can't live on potatoes. They just don't have the nutritional value to be the cornerstone of a complete meal. They'll fill you up, and keep you going but, eventually, you need something more.
There are a lot of teams in this league who already have a great steak, or even surf and turf, and could use a good potato.
The Rams are not one of them.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Every time Gibson was targeted in 2012
How about no gracias?
Gibson isn't the worst receiver in the NFL, but he's far from the best. I'd hesitate to call him a 2nd receiver, he's more like a 3rd. We need to upgrade the position, Gibson just spins the wheels and takes a spot from a younger player who may develop. We've been waiting for Gibson to develop here for a long time, let him go somewhere else.

Re: Every time Gibson was targeted in 2012
I think Gibson, as a 3rd receiver, could look like a Laurent Robinson from the Cowboys (and not how he looked with us). I think he's a valuable asset to the team and I think it'd be wise to keep him. Having said that, I wouldn't be shocked if he isn't back and I am not too concerned with finding a replacement. I just think, because of him having reps with Bradford, and now that he's digested this play book--finally being in the same offensive system for over a year--, he'd be even more consistent and valuable to the offense.

Always and Forever a fan of the St. Louis Rams

Re: Every time Gibson was targeted in 2012
We've been spinning our wheels at this position for several years now. Brandon Gibson- like many of the Rams receivers who have been thru Rams Park- is a decidedly mixed bag. He is capable of performing OK for brief stretches but completely disappears at others. He is not someone who can be productive on a game-in, game-out basis. About the best thing that can be said about him is that he is serviceable. If the price is right and the Rams intend on only using him as a 3rd or 4th guy, I wouldn't mind. But there are dozens of Brandon Gibsons in this league, and I wouldn't think finding a replacement should be all that difficult.
The oft-stated fact remains: We need a big time guy at the position, not a bunch of substitute teachers.

Re: Every time Gibson was targeted in 2012
To be fair to Brandon Gibson, he has been slowly improving since coming to St.Louis. His hand eye co-ordination is above average at NFL level. Gibsons route running isnt bad, and he can be relied upon to suit up each week. It's just a shame he is absolute garbage after the catch.!
I hope it isnt wishful thinking on my part, but Im confident the new Rams brass will find better alternatives in the coming draft. If they don't, well atleast their not resting on the laurels, like other Rams teams over the last thirty years. No doubt, their going to be some interesting and exciting times ahead for us Rams fans.
GO RAMS

Gibson is ok, that's the problem he's just ok. We need playmakers and he doesn't fit that description unfortunately.

Re: Every time Gibson was targeted in 2012
I've never seen Gibson as a 1 or 2, so my expectations for him are probably not as high as others. Not every receiver on a teams roster is going to be a big time playmaker. I see him as a complimentary role player, and in that capacity, I think he is more than adequate. Bradford had no problems going to him in key situations, and Gibson delivered more often than not when targeted. It looked to me like Bradford had confidence in Gibson, and that they had a good chemistry. Gibson made the occasional spectacular catch, and he led the team in TD's.
If the price is right, I'd love to see the Rams keep Gibson.

Re: Every time Gibson was targeted in 2012
I'm on board with Varg6 & r8rh8rmike, Gibson will not be looked upon as our #1 or even #2, but he's young, remains available (healthy) and has some chemistry with Sam. We aren't likely to spend much to keep him, but he has more value than a new WR who isn't necessarily an elite playmaker.
Go Rams!

Re: Every time Gibson was targeted in 2012
Its a good vid...and it shows that Gibson has serious potentual.
However perhaps others may have noticed it too but when Bradford has protection from the O-line good things happen. The part in the clip where the Bears where only rushing 4 and getting to Bradford, not so good a things happened. Wonder how different things would have been if the Rams O-line play was consistantly solid in the passing game?

Re: Every time Gibson was targeted in 2012
Brandon Gibson is a very good 4th receiver, and if we can sign him to 4th receiver money, I'm all for bringing him back.
But what I noticed most about the video is the pass protection from our much maligned O-line.
Seems to me, that they weren't nearly as bad as some people would have you believe.
35 sacks on Bradford this past year in 16 games from the previous year's 36 in 10 games, would help to indicate as much IMO.Last edited by Fortuninerhater; -03-09-2013 at 10:00 PM.
