    Fakhir Brown wins appeal

    By Jim Thomas
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    04/21/2008

There has been much speculation recently that Rams cornerback Fakhir Brown was facing a possible suspension for failing to meet the standards of the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

But league sources told the Post-Dispatch on Monday that Brown has won his appeal for a failed drug test, and will not be suspended. After missing the first four weeks of the Rams’ offseason conditioning program, Brown was at Rams Park on Monday, working out with the rest of the team.

Brown declined to comment Monday, but said he would address the topic at a later date. Brown’s agent, Ted Marchibroda, also declined comment Monday, as did Rams officials.

Brown, a two-year starter for the Rams at cornerback, missed the first four games of the 2007 season for failing to meet standards of the league’s substance abuse policy. Brown said at the start of training camp that he was suspended because he wasn’t at home for a drug test _ he said he was in a nearby town running a summer football camp.

After a player receives a four-game suspension, another failed test normally results in a one-year suspension.

It is uncertain how Brown’s successful appeal affects the Rams draft needs. Four cornerbacks were among the draft prospects brought into Rams Park last week for pre-draft visits with the team.

This is good news. I'm glad that we kept Brown. He's a pretty good CB when he plays hard. Hopefully the fact that he dodged this one will keep him straight and work hard.

Im still not convinced, and im not sure of the details, but if he was suspended four games last year, why is he putting himself in a position where he has to appeal something? there shouldnt be any failed tests at all

I agree. It still bothers me that he continues to get into these situations. Let's hope he's learned something and never has to file any type of appeal again because we need this guy.

I hope he just realizes he's grateful to get another chance and really shows up to be a stud this year.

    Rams' Brown avoids suspension
    By Jim Thomas
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    Tuesday, Apr. 22 2008

There has been much speculation recently that Rams cornerback Fakhir Brown
could be suspended for failing to meet the standards of the NFL's substance
    abuse policy.

Brown, in fact, did fail a league test for one of the NFL's banned substances.
But multiple league sources said Monday that Brown has won an appeal. As a
result, he will not be suspended.

After missing the first four weeks of the Rams' offseason conditioning program,
Brown was at Rams Park on Monday, working out with the rest of the team. Brown
declined to be interviewed, but said he would address the topic at a later date.

Brown's agent, Ted Marchibroda, also declined to comment, as did Rams officials.

Brown, 30, has been a starter for St. Louis at cornerback since signing as an
unrestricted free agent from New Orleans in 2006. A solid cover corner, and one
of the Rams' surest tacklers in the secondary, Brown established career highs
in tackles (76) and interceptions (three) in 14 games in 2006.

He was suspended for the first four games of the 2007 season for failing to
meet standards of the league's substance abuse policy. Brown said at the start
of training camp that he was suspended because he missed a drug test — not
because he failed a drug test.

Returning for the final 12 games of the season, Brown set career highs for
interceptions (four) and pass breakups (16), while recording 53 tackles.

After a four-game suspension, another failed test normally results in a
one-year suspension. Brown has dodged that bullet, and as a result, the Rams no
longer are under pressure to select a cornerback in the early rounds of the
    draft.

Four cornerbacks were among the 26 prospects brought in for pre-draft visits to
Rams Park last Tuesday and Wednesday: Antoine Cason of Arizona, Charles Godfrey
of Iowa, Mike Jenkins of South Florida, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie of
    Tennessee State.

I can't wait to hear this one. How could someone allow themself to be in this situation "AGAIN"? It is good news to know that we will have Brown at the start of the season though.

His agent is Ted Marchibroda. Is this the same guy that was a coach in the NFL many moons ago?

Well, so the speculation by the media was warranted after all and for once they "sort of" kept their mouth shut about what would happen. Hmmmmm.....

    Re: Fakhir Brown wins appeal

In an earlier post I stated Brown has run out of chances in my book. I was challenaged for my position. Althought, he won his appeal, he did fail his test. How much longer can the team continue to count on someone who makes bad choices. His not being suspended opens up the draft a little more. Now a corner in not as high of a need as before. Brown needs to take to heart this failed test, to reassess his priorities and the team needs to look to cover it's self in case he does not.
