Re: Faulk-The Greatest Ram ever to wear the horns!

How funny....last night on midwest Sports I saw Faulk, and just before that I saw a repeat of The Best damn Sports Show and Dickerson was on. It was a good night in my house. Faulk was good and the only thing said about Warner(at least all I heard..lol) was that he was sad to see him go and that basically he didnt think Warner caused trouble and if he did it was never intentional.
I can't wait to watch football again.

Re: Faulk-The Greatest Ram ever to wear the horns!

Even I (non warnerite) know that Warner is the greatest RAM ever... after all.. he did lead us to a SB win.... every other great just put up good stats nad had some treasured moments... Faulk would be my #2 great

As much as I loved to watch Dickerson... the whole offense was built around him and uitimately, the team went nowhere.

Re: Faulk-The Greatest Ram ever to wear the horns!

GC, While I must admit that Marshall is the greatest all around Ram back there's no doubt in my mind that Eric Dickerson was (and is) the greatest PURE running back the Rams have ever had, and a case could be made, that the game has ever seen. Taking nothing away from Faulk, but the fact is that he had a much better supporting cast then Dickerson. Dickerson was THE MAN and everybody KNEW #29 was going to get the ball and they STILL couldn't stop him. God only knows what sort of numbers he would've put up if he had stayed a Ram instead of foolishly leaving a system that was tailored made for him under John Robinson and opting instead to go to Indy. I don't think it's a stretch at all to say that he probably would've have shattered Emmit Smith's rushing record if he would've stayed a Ram. Peace.

That's a tough call when you consider all of the players the Rams have had in their 67 year history. my all time favorite is Mr. Jack Youngblood.

Cool Re: Faulk-The Greatest Ram ever to wear the horns!

It is interesting how the legend and myth of Eric Dickerson has grown over the years. I was as big of an ED fan as any Rams fan. For many years during the 80s he was the Rams only superstar. But ED did have a great offensive line, probably the best during its' day for running the power I formation. ED would line up deep in the I and by the time he got to the line of scrimage, with a full load of steam, his line had moved defenders five yards downfield.

That line had as much to do with EDs yards as ED himself. The guy was not a cutter and he had very few moves. He was simply a straight up straight ahead runner. He wasn't even that powerful. If he got a step or a huge hole, which he often did, then he would be gone or at least 30 yards downfield. Speed was his biggest and only true asset as a RB, aside from that, it was the O-line. He also was a fumbler and he fumbled a lot during critical stages of games. His biggest stage was the 86 NFC title game against the bears and he failed miserably.

I'll take Faulk as my RB any day of the week!!

Blasphemer! Sir Eric had a rare combination of speed, grace, vision and power that few backs have ever matched. Sure the Rams had a great line during most of his seasons with us, but you can't gain over 2,100 yards in a single season without being a great RB. And even after he was traded to Indy with its "glass curtain" OL, he still gained over 1,000 yards three seasons.

ED's best attribute was his vision. He could wait for a hole to open up, and hit that hole in a instant. Once through it, he could accelerate like nobody I've seen since. So there.

Now that's what I'm talkin bout.

Sir Eric or Eric the Great - that is the legend

Speed, grace, vision and power - that is the myth

Speed, as I stated, was his only true asset.

Grace, no, he was a straight up, straight ahead runner and he wore to much gear to even begin to be graceful.

Vision, eh, how could he possibly have had an ounce of vision with those goggles and that face mask he wore.

Power, hah, name one guy he ever ran over. Dickerson wore every pad & piece of protection equipment available to a football player. He wore the neck brace, the elbow pads, the big shoulder pads, the hip pads, the goggles, hell he probably even wore one of those butt pads. Earl Campbell was powerful, he mowed down tacklers. Dickerson was just fast, with an awesome and powerful O-line.

I'll take Faulk as my RB any day of the week.

What Eric are you talking about? I saw ED run.

Was he as powerful as Campbell? No. But he never went down with an arm tackle.

Was he as graceful as Payton? No, but he ran so fluidly, with so little wasted motion that it was a joy to watch.

Did he have the vision of Sanders? No, but where there was a hole, he would find it.

Did he have the speed of Simpson? Yes. ED could hit a hole and be vapor in an instant, amazing for a back who was 6-3 and 220.

Look, maybe ED wasn't Sweetness, but he was more than just a good back behind a great line. Maybe he's not Marshall Faulk, but Faulk wouldn't have fared as well if he was a member of the 85 Rams.

BTW, ED still holds the single-season rushing record.

Re: Faulk-The Greatest Ram ever to wear the horns!

I'm with Ferter on this one. I already stated that I believe Warner is the greatest Ram, but if you're talking solely backs, I'll have to go with Faulk.
ED was a great runner and I also believe that if he would've stayed with the Rams, he would still be holding the rushing yards record by a lot because he did have the best O-line back then.
Now let's fast-forward to Faulk. Look at the Nos. he's put up. Now, imagine him with the same O-line ED had; wow, his Nos. would be more off the charts than they already are, IMO.
