Faulk not a lock for the Hall of Fame--Paul Attner
And you all think we have it bad with some of our writters!
Faulk not a lock for the Hall of Fame
Paul Attner--SPORTING NEWS
July 21, 2006
It appears that Marshall Faulk will have yet another knee operation, which likely will end his career. I've already seen it written that he is a future Hall of Famer, reflecting his standing as the league's No. 9 all-time rusher.
What a great debate this should be: Do you really think Faulk is a slam-dunk Hall of Famer?
I don't.
He is a quality running back who has enjoyed a wonderful career. But there is just something about his play that, while impressive, doesn't shine enough to rate induction into Canton.
Surely, there will be disagreement. Today, there seems to be a rush to anoint virtually any current star worthy of Hall of Fame treatment. There isn't any connection to history, any recall of past stars and what they have done and how our current standouts measure up to them. After all, the standard of what constitutes a Hall of Famer is established by the players already in Canton.
I see Faulk as a classic example. He is good, one of the best among his peers when he was in peak form. But that is not sufficient on its own to get him the votes he will need. He needs to be very, very special. And he wasn't.

This is the kind of retarted crap that is written by someone who was a crack head and then became a "sports reporter".

Re: Faulk not a lock for the Hall of Fame--Paul Attner
What a moronic argument.
Let's look at the criteria generally used to determine whether a player deserves to be in the HOF, and ask whether Marshall meets these criteria:
Career Productivity
Marshall is currently 10th on the all-time rushing list ahead of HOFs Franco Harris, O.J. Simpson and Earl Campbell. He is also 4th all-time in TDs and yards from scrimmage.
Records
Marshall currently holds the record for yards from scrimmage in a season, and is one of only two players in NFL history to have 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in a single season.
Team Success
Marshall won two NFC Championships and one Super Bowl.
Accolades
Marshall has been an All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection several times, and has been the NFL Offensive MVP.
"Best at his position" (at some point in his career)
It can be easily argued that Marshall was the NFL's best player (at any position) from 1999-2001.
Paul Attner - you're a moron!

All of these and more can be found in a book written by Attner titled, "The Flaming Moron: An Autobiography".

Re: Faulk not a lock for the Hall of Fame--Paul Attner
This is an example of self promotion. The guy makes a statement that is totally contrary to what any other writer will tell you, let alone any of the actual hall of famers who should know one when they see one, and that helps him get noticed. If he writes that faulk is a hall of famer, he is writing the obvious. If he writes this crap, he gets attention so people learn his name.
My question. Who is this guy and does he have a vote? Find me someone, just one guy, with an actual vote in the HOF balloting, that says faulk isnt a lock to get in.
I guess to this writer, statistics, championships, intangibles, blocking, receiving dont count.

Re: Faulk not a lock for the Hall of Fame--Paul Attner
Actually Marshall does have a signifigant place in history. He practicly changed the way teams use running backs out of the back field.

Paul Attner doesn't have a vote, according to
http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/selectionprocess.html, and if the HoF
is wise, they'll blacklist him from ever being considered for one.
Bernie has a vote, he'll be the one who has to "argue" Marshall's merits to the rest of the panel. Should be about as easy as proving O.J. did it.
Well, maybe I should pick a different example...

Re: Faulk not a lock for the Hall of Fame--Paul Attner
If Terrell Davis gets in with 7607 yards...I don't see how Faulk doesn't get in with 12000+

Re: Faulk not a lock for the Hall of Fame--Paul Attner
This has got to be one of the top-ten most asinine opinions ever typed in the history of the keyboard, and I mean all the way back to the time of typewriters.
Faulk has earned induction by his statistics and awards alone. When you consider his overall knowledge of the game of football, his skill at reading defenses, his receiving skills and his ability to pick up the blizt and block for his QB, he's gotta be a lock.
Madden has called Faulk the most complete running back in the history of the game, when he was in his prime. I think Madden might be a bit more knowledgable about the game than this moron.
It's amazing when you consider how some people actually get paid money to write this kind of crap.
