Faulk sues makers of new football film

I guess we know what Faulk has been doing in his spare time lately:

Quote:
Rams Running Back Sues Warner Bros. Over Film Title

AP - December 21, 2006

In a strange twist to the upcoming release of a film that is likely to score highly on the "feel good" meter, St. Louis Rams running back Marshall Faulk has filed a civil action in the United States District Court for the Central District of Missouri against the makers of the new film We Are Marshall. The film tells the story of the how the Marshall college football program rose from the ashes of a fatal plane crash.

Faulk, who is currently on the Rams' injured reserve, claims in the suit that he has been working on book, also titled "We Are Marshall," that chronicles his long-time struggle with schitzophrenia. The suit alleges further that Warner Brothers was aware of Faulk's book project at the time it named the film.

The studio has not issued any statement regarding the suit.

Re: Faulk sues makers of new football film

Change the name of the book Marshall... waste of time and money... the only people who ever win when something like this goes to court are the lawyers..

Yes they stole your book name, so what??. .. I am sure someone at clanram could come up with a better title anyway.. .. A split back?

..good advertisement for both film and book though... coincedence maybe?

Re: Faulk sues makers of new football film

Get over yourself Marshall Faulk. Unless he has registered a copyright for that title (which is highly unlikely), he is toast. Even if he has, it takes a enormous ego to name his autobiography "We are Marshall". I've lost some respect for the man.

It has reported that the other Marshall Faulk had no knowledge of the lawsuit.

That is probably the best outlook to this potential little feud.

Dearest friend and Ram idol Marshall, a piece of advice: Just tell them "BAH! Humbug!"

It is beneath you to quarrel over such a petty matter.

Re: Faulk sues makers of new football film

Sorry for the language but thats kind of an 'ass' move on Marshall. The movie 'We are Marshall' is the story about the college Marshall after a plane crashes killing virtually the whole team except a few and they come back strong and have a miraculous season or something, and how the heck would Warner Bros new anything about Faulks book?

Ass move on Faulk IMO.

Re: Faulk sues makers of new football film

Cal Poly San luis Obispo also lost most of their football team in a plane crash back in the Mid 50's, about the when John Madden was playing there. Possibly the reason Madden won't fly?

As for Faulk, the suit seems out of character for the Faulk we thought we knew. It makes sense (the title) now it is revealed he was (is) schizophrenic, but I don't see how he thought he had rights to the title.

Re: Faulk sues makers of new football film

I've had some time to think about this story since I posted it, and the more I mull it over, the more I really am annoyed. First of all, this seems a complete waste of the judicial system. Faulk certainly does not need the money that the suit, in the best case scenario for him, might bring. He also could simply change the name of his book.

The other part about this that bothers me is that this is the first we have heard of Faulk's condition, as far as I know. Certainly, he has the right to keep something like this private. But to write a book, and then to draw attention to the book by filing a high profile suit just when a major film is released, seems like exploitation to me.

As a lawyer, I really don't like reading stories like this. Lawyers do plenty to inflict harm on the reputation of the profession without this kind of nonsense. Truthfully, only one thing tempers my anger over this entire story and that is the fact that I made the whole thing up.

Re: Faulk sues makers of new football film

Come on...

The concept of Faulk writing a serious book about schitzophrenia and naming it "We Are Marshall."

That's funny!
