Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
Mine is the "Who IS this guy" cover. If there was a movie about Warner and the 1999 Rams, that cover would appear in a montage on screen, spinning and then revealing its headline that expressed what every NFL fan was thinking in October of 1999.
Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
I was going to pick "Who IS this Guy", but I had to vote for the Super Bowl cover.
Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
I just loved the who is this guy.
But rampower has to be tops. Its me after all!
Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
I went with "How did THIS guy win a Super Bowl?!" I had to vote for the ring as much as I wanted to vote for the coming out party for Warner.
Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
There is another Roman Gabriel SI cover from Dec. 18, 1967 (NFL week 13) where he is scrambling foward Vs. Packers. It was a 'must win' game to make the playoffs and the Rams won it in fantastic finish style. The title of this particular SI cover reads: The Fighting Rams Go Down to the Wire and the name of the corresponding article is 'A Real Wowser For The Rams'.
Anyway, that is one of my all-time favorite SI covers and yet -- sorry -- I ended up voting for the December 1970 SI cover because I hadn't seen the lineup of the other photo icons. Still, a very close 2nd would be KW's "Who IS this guy?" followed by the SB XXXIV victory.
PS: That 'other' SI cover photo of Gabriel is here in the ClanRam Pictures & Albums section, RealRam album p. 2. Also in post #15 below. :)
Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
I have to say, even though it was based on a Rams loss, the Rams/Steelers cover with the caption "This One Was Really Super" is one of the all time classic SI covers.
Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
I voted for Who Is This Guy? because I have that one, and because I was one of the few people that knew who he was.
Not because I followed his college and Arena League careers, but because I was about the only one on the RamPagers that paid attention to his signing (The post disgrace had him listed as Curt Warner in that article). I also looked up all I could find on him, corrected Jim Thomas error in spelling, and suggested Kurt should get equal training camp time with Tony the tiger. No matter what level Kurt played in, all he did was win. Well, a lot more than he lost. The guy had skills. He just didn't have opportunity.

Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
Wasn't Kyle Turley on the cover once.
Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
I voted for Super Bowl XXXIV. One of my favorite magazine covers though is an issue of ESPN The Magazine that has Warner,Bruce,Faulk,Hakim,Holt and maybe but not sure Proehl and they are all wearing each others jerseys.

That was Jason Sehorn.
The caption was:

Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
Who is this guy? That's where my vote went.
I was at Warner's 1st game as a starter in 1999. In St. Louis against the Ravens. I can remember asking myself "who is this guy" as he torched the Ravens.
I will say that anyone or anything that has to do with our RAMS and makes the cover of SI..... it's exciting.
Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
Tough choices and a good poll AV! I went with "Who is this guy?" too just because of all of the surprise and excitement coming from that era. But I also liked the Dickerson and Gabriel covers because of the history...
Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
Hands down, "Rams win Superbowl".
Re: Favorite Rams SI Cover
This is the SI cover I referred to earlier (Dec. 18, 1967 issue): The Fighting Rams Go Down To The Wire, the one I took for granted would be the [Dec. 1970] Roman Gabriel number, not having seen the respective thumbnails.

It is one my all-time Rams favorites because it was my "third year" as fan (teen and green but true) and I was so excited that they were on their way to the playoffs ... IF ... they won their last two games -- which they did big time! This is the game before last and that particular SI cover became an instant Rammemory for me.
The big Roman General. :ram:
But again, Kurt Warner in 'Who IS This Guy?' is my very close 2nd vote. 3rd is SB XXXIV.
