Ntchwaidumela - will become famous soon enough
Favourite Ram of your fan era...

Not necessarily the best players, but the ones you remember the most...

My era 1983' - present day.

QB - Warner (For his acheivments as a Ram)
RB - Faulk (Dickerson rocked, but Faulk had the versatility)
OL - Jackie Slater (Big daddy)
WR - Isaac Bruce (Ellard close second. And J.T.Thomas for getting ejected for punching Marquez Pope in the mouth when he was a whiner. Crap receiver, but that ejection made my day!)

DL - Kevin Greene (Made Wistroms prime time look lazy, Kevin Carter close second)
LB - Mike Wilcher (First LB I really noticed, Spoon is the man now though)
CB - Jerry Gray (Todd Lyght and Aneas Williams razor blade width's behind)
FS/SS - Toby Wright (He hated everyone and let them know it. Can remember him nearly killing Jerry Rice in one game. Made John Lynch look like Sponge Bob Square pants. First Ram I ever saw ejected on live TV)

Page Ranking - Az Zahir Hakim (Fumbles aside, he was lightning in a bottle)
KR - Ron Brown (Only guy I have seen out sprint Darrell Green circa. 84/5 for a TD)

K - Wilkins (Then Lansford)
P - Landeta/Misko (Come on their just punters!!)

As I say, this may have been done before but this list *IS NOT BASED ON THE BEST PLAYERS AT THE STATED POSITION*

But on those you remeber and consider your favourites for your era as a fan.
For example Deacon Jones was much better than Greene. But Greene was the man during my time.

Anyhow, sorry to bore you all. At least it's out my system now!

My era, very similar.

QB - Everett, the first decent QB we had in my time, hence a big fave of mine. Hard to argue with warner though.
RB - Faulk, the master behind the GSOT in my mind
OL - Jackie Slater is a ram hero
WR - Isaac Bruce (Ellard close second.) Holt and Flipper come to mind too.
DL - Kevin Greene, good choice
LB - Mike Wilcher (First LB I really noticed, Spoon is the man now though) london flethcer worth a mention too/
CB - Jerry Gray my choice too.
FS/SS - Toby Wright, hard to argue here
Page Ranking - Az Zahir Hakim (Fumbles aside, he was lightning in a bottle) AGREED!
KR - Ron Brown, a serious sprint machine!

K - Wilkins (Then Lansford)
P - Landeta/Misko (Come on their just punters!!)

I think a lot of players I think of are the ones who were first playing in the team when I first started following the rams, or the first players to stand out anyways.

Re: Favourite Ram of your fan era...

Kevin Greene.

All-time favourite Ram.

Minor quibble would be the fact that he was an outside 'backer in a 3-4/2-5 alignment.

Final year with us he switched to down lineman, which he was none too pleased about.

Re: Favourite Ram of your fan era...

Always great to reminisce on this, Ntchwaidumela. Nice thread.

Ah, my Rams era ... and now you got me started. Thanks!

_________________________________________________

"My era" consisted of the 1965-72 Rams years ... those players, that uniform, that coach (Coach Allen from '66-70); those NFL years and teams that went up against the formidable Rams.

I remember them well, the Rams pictures I used to carefully place on my mexican book covers -- and back covers -- of junior and high school, under the clear plastic protection; stopped doing this in college but, oh, yes indeed, all my classmates knew who I was rooting for!

Was totally enamoured with the uniform in '65 and became an avid, life-long diehard fan the following year.

And now **drumroll**, my favorite 65-72 L. A. Rams roster:

OFFENSE

QB - The Roman General (Rams 11 years, NFL MVP 1969)
RB - Dick Bass (Rams 10 yrs) / Larry Smith (5 yrs)
RB - Les Josephson (Rams 10 yrs) / Willie Ellison (6 yrs)
OT - Charlie Cowan (Rams 15 yrs)
OG - Joe Scibelli (Rams 15 yrs) / Rich Saul (12 yrs)
C - Ken Iman (Rams 10 yrs)
OG - Tom Mack* (Rams 13 yrs / Joe Carollo (7 yrs)
OT - Bob Brown* (Rams 2 yrs)
WR - Bernie Casey (Rams 2 yrs) / Wendell Tucker (4 yrs)
WR - Jack Snow (Rams 13 yrs)
TE - Billy Truax - (Rams 7 yrs) / Marlin McKeever (8 yrs)

DEFENSE

DE - Deacon Jones* (Rams 11 years) / Lamar Lundy (13 yrs)
DT - Coy Bacon (Rams 5 yrs) / Roger Brown (3 yrs)
DT - Merlin Olsen* (Rams 15 yrs)
DE - Jack Youngblood* (Rams 14 yrs) / Diron Talbert (4 yrs)
LB - Jack Pardee (Rams 13 yrs)
LB - Myron Pottios (Rams 5 yrs)
LB - Maxie Baughan (Rams 5 yrs; see current avatar)
DB - Irv Cross (Rams 3 yrs)
DB - Dave Elmendorf (Rams 9 yrs)
DB - Eddie Meador (Rams 12 yrs)
DB - Jim Nettles (Rams 4 yrs)

Page Ranking - Irv Cross (see DBs)
KR - Alvin Haymond (Rams 3 yrs)

K - Bruce Gossett (Rams 6 yrs)
P - Pat Studstill (Rams 4 yrs)

*. - HOF

I'd continue with plenty highlights of these players, believe me, not necessarily 'NFL Films' highlights but at least those embedded in my Rammemory. But I had to go short.

:bash: ...GO RAMS FOREVER!

Would definitely have to add RB Tommy Mason (Rams 4 years), and DT Rosey Grier (a Ram 4 yrs also) to "my" era.

Re: Favourite Ram of your fan era...

No doubt my favorite of all time is Kurt Warner.
I only started keeping up with the Rams in late 2002/2003, saw a few games earlier than that, so my "era" is limited.

Re: Favourite Ram of your fan era...

Oh man....... tough question, but a great one. I could list a guy at every position, but I'll just let my mind wander and mention the ones that come to mind first.

#1: Jack Youngblood. A man's man.

#2: Eric D. Watching that man run was a real pleasure. A shame it ended the way it did. ...real shame.

#3: Jackie Slater. The best I've ever seen at his position.

#4: Henry Ellard. When I look at Holt I see a lot of Henry in him. Both great.

#5: Ron Brown: This is weird, because he was not a great player, but it's probably because I watched him take two back in one game against the Packers at Anaheim. I had end-zone tickets and a can still remember him breaking into the clear, and coming at me from about 80 yards away. Man, he was fast.

#6: Kurt Warner. Probably one of the greatest come-from-nowhere stories of all time in sports. A good man, ...a great story.

#7: Not a player, but coaches. George Allen and John Robinson. I had the pleasure of meeting both of them at different times in my life. In fact, besides the coaches, I've had the pleasure of meeting several Rams away from the playing field, including; Jackie Slater, Jack Youngblood, Jackie Slater, Dennis Harrah, and the great Deacon Jones.

Oh man........the memories.

Re: Favourite Ram of your fan era...

My era is from about 74 to present and the list long.

The top and the reason I am a Ram fan is Jack Youngblood.

2 stories about him:

I tried to get his Jersey from the NFL shops several years ago and they would not let me buy an 85 with Youngblood on it. No gang names allowed. Check the records, this guy is in your Hall.

Also I saw him as an analyst on ESPN in the early years after he retired. During Wimbeldon they ask him what he thought about the finals. His response

"Chris, tennis is like quiche, real men don't do it" Last time he was ESPN!!!

Gotta love Jack

My second fav is Jack "Hacksaw" Reynolds
