Finally getting respect?

Ever since I saw how the '99 Rams beat astronomical odds to win SB XXXIV, I've enjoyed seeing how the odds looked in the offseason, how FA and the draft affect them, and how the odds change right up to the bye week. After that, we all know our chances.

But, enough of that. After the disasters of last season, I looked at a site on Dec. 31, 2005. The odds of the Rams winning SB XLI were 200/1.

After both Linehan and Haslett were hired, the odds changed to 100/1.

Free Agency and draft only helped a bit. The odds went to 60/1.

June 1 didn't really change anything for the Rams, so I decided to wait until now to check the odds...and I was shocked! It looks like the odds are getting better for us, even though no one has seen the Rams on the field!

Here's the Vegas.com odds sheet as of 7/2/06:

Quote:
2007 Super Bowl
Event Date: Feb. 4, 2007/ Last updated June 10, 2006
Team Current
Indianapolis Colts 11/2
Seattle Seahawks 11/1
New England Patriots 7/1
Carolina Panthers 8/1
Pittsburgh Steelers 7/1
Dallas Cowboys 7/1
San Diego Chargers 12/1
Denver Broncos 12/1
New York Giants 17/1
Chicago Bears 11/1
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 25/1
Cincinnati Bengals 16/1
Washington Redskins 14/1
Jacksonville Jaguars 30/1
Kansas City Chiefs 25/1
Atlanta Falcons 35/1
Philadelphia Eagles 18/1
Miami Dolphins 15/1
Minnesota Vikings 22/1
Green Bay Packers 36/1
Baltimore Ravens 42/1
Cleveland Browns 50/1
St. Louis Rams 30/1
Buffalo Bills 55/1
Oakland Raiders 30/1
Arizona Cardinals 30/1
Detroit Lions 40/1
Houston Texans 60/1
New Orleans Saints 50/1
San Francisco ***** 110/1
Tennessee Titans 90/1
New York Jets 75/1
30/1. Quite an improvement, and it puts us pretty much in the middle of the pack, instead of with the bottom feeders.

I don't really know how to interpret this movement, as many other sites have different odds, but to me it says that the big bettors have seen something that makes the Rams a lot less risky.

Re: Finally getting respect?

Living in Vegas, you have to get used to "odds" being used to describe everything. When dealing with casino's and odds you have to remember this...casino's are not in the business to lose money. The Rams are rated in the middle of the pack because there are too many uncertainties with the team. First year head coach, first year defensive coordinator, etc, etc, etc. I don't know if the Rams have what it takes to win a championship this year but I do believe they will not be cellar dwellars either.
It should be an exciting season. GO RAMS!!!

Re: Finally getting respect?

I was in Reno for New Year's Eve...put $100 for the Rams to win the 2007 Super Bowl at 200 to 1. Tell you what RFS, if I win, I'll buy you that blue and gold crown, cape, and scepter you want for winning the funniest poster in the clannies!

The Rams were 4-12 in 1998 including two beatings at the hands of the *****. It would be 1999 that would finally get us over the hump against not only the ***** but the rest of the league.

This is exactly why I hate these "odds", its no odds, no numbers calculated, its just how everyone plays on Sundays, and I think any team has just of a good chance as anyone else week 1, and so on and so forth. We could have lost every game last year, and this year win it all, you just never know with football, or any sport really. We will just have to wait and see...

Good luck, and Go RAMS

Re: Finally getting respect?

I really the Rams will have a great season, and a good playoffs run. How far they go I don't know, but I have the same feeling when they won in 99, and went in 01. I also new they would loose in 01, how I don't know. Anyway I can almost guarantee we will be in the Super Bowl this year.

It really seems like the rams are getting more respect. they are saying that marc will go over 4,000 yards if he stays healthy and that the rams should be a improved team this season.

Re: i was watching nfl live and....

Yea thats Right! We better be gettin respect! Yep, Marc Bulger is probably going to do that this season. Cause he can audible and our line has more experience and Riche is gonna change our o-line a lot! And we have two new great targets to throw too. Klop and Bryd. and we cant forget about Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, and Kevin Curtis.

"Rams getting more respect" ... sounds sort of like another thread that's already been started.

EDIT: Merged threads into one respectful thread.

Re: Finally getting respect?

Respect comes from doing the right things on the field. I could care less what writers, prognosticators, or talking ESPN heads say or think about the Rams.

Hate to say it, but Al Davis has the best quote ever in sports....."Just WIN Baby".
