    Fitzpatrick or Smoker??

In another thread 1ST & GOAL brought up an interesting point that I have been wondering about recently. Will the 3rd QB be Fitzpatrick or Smoker this year? The new QB coach is Smokers position coach from college and it seemed to me that Martz never gave Smoker a chance to compete for the job last pre-season, I dont think he threw 10 passes in the exibition season.I heard a rumor he fell out of favor with Martz after refusing to change his jersey number. When Bulger was injured last season I was one of those who really wanted Fitzpatrick to get a chance to play, and after one awesome performence against a bad Houston D,he was made the starter for a few games.Needless to say after those few games I was one of those who couldnt wait for Martin to return so the Rams maybe would have a chance to win!!So who do you think makes the team as the 3rd string?Martz Harvard boy or Smoker the guy who possibly wasnt given a very fair shot to make the team last season? I think Fitz has the upper hand but with Linehan in charge it will be an open competition and may the best man win!!!

    Re: Fitzpatrick or Smoker??

Fitz has won a game, a big win, and has started. This gives him a big advantage. Smoker will have to bust his ass to make the squad this year.
Whichever one gets the nod for the practice squad (I am assuming Ferrotte has the backup position locked up)
can still be be picked up by another team, if I am not mistaken. One will be cut.

This means that we could lose both of them, and I have a feeling Fitz would be looked at the most.

I dont think we will lose them both.If one is on the practice squad we could lose him,but the Rams will certainly carry 3 QB's on the roster.

Based on what I've seen of them in the past, I would say Fitzpatrick should be kept around (greater potential)

Yes I'd keep fitz.He has a good arm,and when he gets in trouble his feet can get him out of it.Smoker cant run any better than Warner could.

Hopefully we'll keep Fitz in development, for the reasons given. :clanram:

Fitzpatrick for me. Yes he had some up and downs in his rookie season, but he showed some great glimpses of potential.

Get rid of Ferrotte. Keep Smoker and Fitz.

Ferrotte can go headbutt the goal post again.

    Re: Fitzpatrick or Smoker??

The Nussmeir-Smoker connection may give him an inside track. Couple that with the speed with which Martz' projects have been jettisoned, Fitz may find his way to the practice squad.

Whichever can hold the clipboard with the best grip and not lose their cap on the sidelines is fine with me.

Hopefully, that's all that's asked of them. But with our history of meat-grinding the QBs, they may have leather in their hands sooner than any of us would like.

But you're right, with any luck, they don't touch a football on any Sunday soon.

    Re: Fitzpatrick or Smoker??

I really dont know. Fitz did great in the Houston game, but Smoker has a better arm. I think, of the two, Smoker has more potential. Martz's offense was just too much. So, right now, I'd give the upper hand to Smoker. His college QB coach was here, and he's going to give Smoker every opportunity.
The Roman and The Prince. Playmakers until the end.
