i think you beat me to the post, you deserve the credit. No way to evaluate this move until you see what we got. i liked the idea of trading fitz and then only keeping 2 qb's

I think this means the Rams will only carry 2 QBs on the Roster and Hagans will be the Emergency Quarterback on Gameday while Berlin will be on the Practice Squad.

If that's the case, you still have to remember that Holcomb went for a 6th and he actually has some decent game experience, so I'm not shocked if this is true.

Ahh just a 7th. Maybe we will trade it away in the future along with other things for something else.

Edit - Are we going to add another DB or lineman in Steussie's absence you guys think?

Maybe Linehan didn't think Fitz was a good fit for his system?

A 7th round pick is generally a long shot to make the team. I suppose it beats the no compensation that is the result of an outright release though.

    Re: fitzpatrick traded to bengals

CINCINNATI (AP) -No. 2 quarterback Doug Johnson was released Saturday by the Cincinnati Bengals, who replaced him by getting Ryan Fitzpatrick from the St. Louis Rams for a conditional draft pick.

Johnson was dumped a day after he threw a pair of interceptions in a 14-6 preseason loss to Indianapolis, another poor showing that prompted the Bengals make the trade.

The Bengals enter the season depending upon Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Palmer to stay healthy. Neither of his backups - Fitzpatrick and fifth-round draft pick Jeff Rowe - will have much experience in Cincinnati's system.

Fitzpatrick was a seventh-round pick in 2005 and started three games in 2005. He threw four touchdowns and eight interceptions overall that season.

Fitzpatrick was the Rams' third quarterback for the first 15 games last season. He played briefly in the final game, but didn't throw a pass. The Bengals got him for a draft pick next year, with the round depending upon how well he performs.
It's a good move for Fitz. Now if something happens to Palmer he will be the starter. I wish him all the best.

I never want a player to get injured, but if Palmer goes down and Fitz comes in and does well, we could get a 2nd or 3rd rounder....how sweet would that be.

    Re: fitzpatrick traded to bengals

I'm not really surprised this trade happened. But a 7th or whatever isn't really that valuable, I'd rather have Fitz, he even has a few years NFL experience (ok, mostly training camp & preseason but still better experience than most rookie QB's you'd pick up in the draft). I see the point of only keeping 2 QB's and if that's the plan, I sort of understand it. But we still have 2 fairly old QB, it was very nice to have a young developmental QB as well IMO.

Playing devil's advocate: Linehan sure likes getting rid of "Martz" guys and bringing in friends, look out Hedgecock and others, maybe we can look forward to more ex-Dolphins/Vikings/college acquaintances coming aboard. It's not a management-style that I like, but we'll see how it works out - to the extent that we get players better fitted to Linehans system I see the point, but I'm not convinced we won't switch a better player for a worse on account of this at some point.

A 7th may not be that valuable BUT the roster spot it gives us IS valuable especially since Todd went down. There would be no way to put Fitz on the practice squad without him being taken (so we get a conditional 7th instead of nothing), and putting Berlin on the practice squad is ok because I highly doubt he gets taken.

Hey, it is a lot better to get SOMETHING for him besides just cutting him and getting nothing.
