Fletcher Cleared for Training Camp ..

    By Brian Stull

Bradley Fletcher is back and ready to go for the Rams.

Fletcher received his full medical clearance from doctors yesterday and will be ready to go when the team reports to camp the end of this week.

As mini-camp came to a close, Steve Spagnuolo was asked how likely it was for Fletcher to be ready for the start of training camp.

"I don't know, it may be wishful thinking on my part," began Spags. "But he's been doing a great job in rehab. He's really excelled in the rehab."

Fletcher earned his way to starting three straight games at corner before tearing ligaments in his knee against Indianapolis in week 7. The injury required two surgeries, and put into doubt his status for the start of the 2010 season. But throughout the rehab process Fletcher has been ahead of schedule.

"You have to pull him back" shared Spagnuolo during the Draft in April. "He wants to do too much. But you have to be careful at that particular injury. But Reggie (Scott) and his staff's doing a great job with him. He's a warrior in the training room right now."

Fletcher was in attendance for all the Rams OTAs (organized team activities) and mini-camps, and was on the field participating in some individual drills as the practices went on as part of the rehab process.

Before the injury, Fletcher showed the size and physicality in press coverage that made him the Rams 3rd round selection of the 2009 Draft. He also showed the ability to quickly learn from his mistakes.

In particular, a play against Green Bay in Week 3 stands out--as Fletcher failed to look back for the ball and was flagged for defensive pass interference against Donald Driver. Over the next couple of weeks, quarterbacks tested Fletcher and he responded with sound technique and wasn't flagged.

While he missed most of the rest of the season due to the injury, last year's experience should be invaluable as Fletcher enters into what promises to be one of the most competitive positions on the Rams roster in training camp.

Ron Bartell is expected to start at one of the corner spots. But besides Fletcher, Quincy Butler and Justin King both saw action for the Rams last season. Kevin Dockery has been acquired via free agency--and is a veteran of the Spagnuolo defense from their time together in New York.

The Rams also drafted two other corners, Jerome Murphy (3rd Round) and Marquis Johnson (7th). Both rookies fit the Rams style of aggressive-press coverage.

Fletcher played in a total of 7 games last season for the Rams and recorded 23 tackles.

Good to have him back I expect him to our number 2 guy. If Bartell is healthy I think the corners will play really well this year.

yeah, guy made some mistakes early on but he got a lot better as the season progressed. unfortunately his season was cut short about halfway through, i'm hoping he gets back into the mix and continues to improve.
