Florio on McDaniels
Posted by Mike Florio on January 20, 2011, 7:04 PM EST
New Broncos coach John Fox continues to fill out his staff in Denver, not long after his staff in Carolina disbanded.
The Broncos announced that Jeff Rodgers, who handled the special teams in Carolina for the past two years, will be the Broncos’ new special-teams coordinator. Also, Adam Gase shifts from receivers coach to quarterbacks coach.
Gase replaces Ben McDaniels, the brother of former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels. With Rams quarterbacks coach Dick Curl (we’re sort of surprised Brett Favre didn’t use that name as his texting alias, allegedly) now retiring and Josh McDaniels arriving as offensive coordinator, it’s probably only a matter of time before the latest example of the Nepotism Football League unfolds in St. Louis.
Meanwhile, we’ve got a feeling that snag in Josh McDaniels’ negotiations with the Rams may have had something to do with Curl’s ongoing presence and Ben McDaniels’ future employment prospects.
Purely speculation? Hmmnn ..

Absolutely speculation. No one knows what happened in those meetings except for the people who were there, and they're not saying..

Re: Florio on McDaniels
Wow, was the tongue and cheek about the Rams former QB coach really neccesary. Poor taste Florio! Even though he might be right about Josh/Rams snags in negotiations.
The impact this will have on Sam Bradford looks to show great promise, as Josh assumes a hands on approach as Rams OC. Bringing along his brother gives Josh total control at this position. Out with the old, In with the New + keeping it all in the family!
Looking forward to the Rams running the Double MAC Attack!!!![SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Re: Florio on McDaniels
Why do people keep coming up with these conspiracy theories.
First the equipment manager now the former qb coach.
The fact is no one who speculates on these issues has any idea what actually happened. I, personally, don't care. I want the Rams to win rather than make sure are their employees are treated "fairly". Its the NFL these things happen on a daily basis.
Get over it.

Don't listen to Florio, he is pretty much based on nothing but rumors and his own ideas. I still remember he kept trying to dig up dirt on Kurt Warner a few years ago... even calling him a "phony" and that Kurt was pretending to be a good person to hide his own selfish desires... that's where I stopped putting any trust in his "speculation" reports.

Re: Florio on McDaniels
It could have gone either way with Curl's departure. On the one hand, it's not all that uncommon for lower level guys to leave or be dismissed when the guy who was responsible for their hiring leaves, especially if the new head honcho wants to run a different system. It is entirely possible that part of the negotiation was that McD gets to bring on his brother as QB Coach.
On the other hand, Curl will turn 71 in May. Even if he was given the option to stay on, he might have figured this was the right time to bow out.
